The sun crept over the horizon in a forever winning battle as it slithered through the ground-level windows of the Slytherin dormitories. Roman was fast asleep in his bed, his gold, red, and white pajamas were the most colorful things in the room. They were hidden under evergreen blankets, the fall drafts never stopped flowing through the castle anymore. Students were in a desperate fight to stay warm as they woke up in the mornings. Roman normally slept later than his roommate did, but still got to the Great Hall on time.
His roommates never really cared for him, none of them were close friends. They had light conversation throughout the years. If someone needed something, they did their best to help. Roman had always told himself that it was better than having roommates that hated him. When he listened to his brother's stories of dormitory commotion though, he couldn't help but feel a bit of jealousy in his chest.
Roman arose from his bed earlier than usual that morning. He didn't question it. He threw his blankets over his bed in a somewhat neat fashion. Two fo his roommates were already in the breakfast hall. The other two that remained were still dressed. One of them, Brian, was tying his tie.
"Hey Roman, Slughorn told me that there were some transfer students moving ni over the weekend. He told me I might get pushed into a different dorm." He said. Roman put his shirt on as he perked up.
"Really?" He asked.
"Yeah, some kids from the other dorms are gonna switch around. I don't have any news yet though." He said. Roman sighed.
"I hope my brother doesn't take your place." He said. Brian chuckled.
"It'll be fine. I think the first to leave that dorm is Virgil anyway." He said. Roman finished buttoning his shirt.
"Virgil Stokes?" He asked.
"Yeah, he's the nicest guy I've ever met. Had charms wit him last year. He always slept." He said. Roman took a mental note.
"I sit next to him in transfiguration. Thanks." He said. Brian folded his collar down as Roman grabbed his robes.
"No problem, see you later." He said. Roman waved him off as Lin came out of the bathroom.
"Hey Roman," He said. Roman smiled.
"Sup Lin."
"Have you seen my scarf?" He asked .Roman whipped around and pointed to the scarf that draped over the four poster curtains.
"Thanks." He said. Roman began to tie his shoes efficiently.
"We can walk down together if you want." Lin offered. He did this every morning.
"No, it's okay. Go get breakfast." Roman assured.
"Okay, see ya." Lin said as he walked out of the door. Roman grabbed his bag from atop his trunk at the foot of his bed.
"Wand... where is it?" He muttered to himself. The wand laid on his bedside table as he ran to grab it. he quickly shoved it into his pocket before running out of the dorm, through the dungeons all the way to the Great Hall.
The Great Hall was arguably more beautiful at night when the glare of the sunbeams didn't interfere with the galaxy that glowed in its roof. Though, in the mornings, the stars twinkled in unison with the floating candles. The same golden and bronze glow made Roman smile morning to morning. He strolled in with swagger to the Slytherin table. He sat alone at breakfast, people watching. It entertained him to see who the students acted in the morning. The edgier of the houses, the ones with the most passive-aggressive kids, the ones to be feared, they were all softies in the morning. All tired, all annoyed.
