Virgil stood in front of the Great Hall the next morning with Remus and Deceit by the oldest boys' bathroom. They were staring at the new transfer students/
Remus was leaning seductively against the wall, he put all his weight on his left foot. He was sporting a smokey eye look with hints of purple and blue in the shadow on the lid. His toothy grin was hidden behind a smirk that matched Deceit's. Remus looked lazily towards his friend, whose arms were crossed as he stood straight up against the wall. Deceit's eyes resembled the leaves that were falling in the forest outside. He looked sharply over to the kids, they overheard that they are from Ilvermorny.
"They're very loud." He said.
"They don't have American last names either." Remus said. Virgil glared at him.
"Just because they're from Ilvermorny doesn't mean that they have to be American." Virgil said. Deceit hummed again.
"DiGrazzo, Smith, Kolver, Gomez, O'Connor, Salih, it's a mix Dukey. America is a melting pot." Deceit declared. Remus nodded.
"Does it matter?" Virgil asked.
"Why has Virgil become so defensive?" Deceit asked with a curious yet manipulative smile. Virgil furrowed his brow.
"They aren't over here to defend themselves, and you barely know them! So why are you questioning their identity when some of them may not even know what their true one is?!" Virgil asked. The room fell silent. All eyes turned to him. Remus glared. Deceit smirked.
"Mr. Stokes! Why must you bring so much attention to yourself?"
Professor McGonagall rushed over from the student. Virgil gulped.
"What is the issue, don't you see hat I have students to introduce?" She asked.
"Virgil was questioning their last names, Ma'am." Remus said. Virgil snapped his head around to him, tears formed in the corners of his eye.
"Virgil, is this true?" She asked.
"N-No!" His voice cracked. "They were questioning the names and who the kids were. I was defending them." Virgil said. McGonnagal turned her head towards the two behind him.
"Boys, is this true?" She asked.
"He's lying." Deceit said. Virgil let out a sob.
"Virgil! Twenty points from Slytherin!" She yelled. Virgil slouched over and stuffed his hands into his robes. McGonagall towered over him.
"I'm not lying I-I'm telling the truth..." Virgil whispered.
"What!" She yelled.
"Nothing!" Virgil yelled, and he took his bag and ran.
"Mr. Stokes! Come back here at once!" She yelled. Virgil continued to run.
Virgil ran down the halls towards the dungeons. He escaped the Great Hall with ease. He also heard his name being called until he reached the staircase that took the Slytherins down to the dungeons. He didn't care anymore. All he could've done was run, and that's exactly what he did.
Virgil arrived at the common room entrance and quickly muttered the password to the painting. The painting obliged with a grunt and opened. He slid in and puled it closed behind him to secure that he wasn't being followed. He looked around at the empty common room and bent down, putting his hands on his knees firmly. He let out a few hoarse coughs as he coughs his breath. The only thing that ran through his mind on repeat was the fact that he was in trouble. He nearly threw up at the thought of it.
