"Where's my master? Master?" The sound of a child crying grabbed my attention as I was sneaking through the most luxurious halls I'd ever seen.

I peeked around the corner to find the source of that sound, only to be met with a human child that was around the age of five. His clothes were old and a bit too small for him, his blond hair was messy and his cheeks stained with tears. He was approaching me.

Shit, what do I do? I need to get to my post for this mission but as I was thinking about my next move, the child was suddenly already next to me. "Have you seen my master?'' He cried to me, I tried shushing him or he'll give up my location.

"it's alright... I'm sure he's looking for you." Now I also saw the bruises on the child's arms en face, they fucking abused children the heartless monsters. His master probably isn't even thinking about him. "What's your name?" I asked.

"Matt." He answered through his hiccups and I truly worried about this kid. He was calming down slightly though, I needed him to be quiet.

So I brought up my finger in front of my lips and hushed my voice, "alright Matty, my name is Riley and I need you to be quiet okay? Can you do that for me, sweetie?" I softly rubbed the sides of his arms in a calming manner as well.

He used his tiny fist to rub his wet eyes in an attempt to dry them and nodded to me. He really tried and in a manner of seconds, his crying had stopped. "You're such a big boy, Matt. I'm so impressed!"

But now what? I suddenly had a fucking child around my arm in a death mission, my comrades surely were in their assigned location already and I still wasn't. I didn't have a very important role, just a lookout, one of twelve but what if by some weird coincidence the Lord would appear right through the route I'm supposed to be looking out for?

I grabbed the walkie talkie for emergencies, we wouldn't normally use them for it made too much noise but I had no choice at the moment. "Attention, unforeseen impediment on my part. I'm not in place yet. Over."

"Are you alright, Riley? Are you safe? Over."

I looked at Matt next to me, a major distraction. But would I run away he would surely start to cry again and alert possible patrols? I was about to inform me about our situation when I heard a voice speak up from behind me.

I hadn't noticed a vampire appearing from my blind spot, my heart was beating out of my chest as I gulped and halted my movements. I looked at Matt who was bowing his head to the vampire, probably taught to do so.

I let out a soft breath and in a swift movement, I turned around while stretching my right leg. I stayed as low as possible and managed to hit the vampire right by his ankle to catch him off balance. I had to be quick or he'll alert others.

He was completely caught off guard, not expecting a human to attack or even know martial arts. As he was falling I pulled the silver knife out of my holster that was secured around my upper leg and brought the knife to his neck. "Die, you filthy bloodsucker," I said through gritted teeth while plunging the pure silver knife into the neck.

The knife almost cut through him like he was a piece of butter. So smooth and efficient. This sort of moment when a vampire knew he was going to die by a mere humans hand with an expression of fear and bewilderment on their face.

I fucking loved it.

That expression stayed even after I decapitated him. Just a plunge into the heart would have been sufficient but where was the fun in that?

I thought it was over but in a matter of seconds I was surrounded by many
more vampires and I heard through the walkie talkie the leader speak up. "All forces pull back at once! Mission failed, pull back! Over!" And I knew then we fucked up.
