"Class Dismissed." Mr. Aizawa grumbled before walking out the door. Everyone stayed seated and oddly quiet until Iida restated the announcement. Lately, everyone has been off of their game and though it's understandable, it just doesn't make sense to me, but then again I'm the class idiot so who knows what I understand and don't.
"So uh Denks, you coming? I don't want to sound rude or anything, you don't have to especially if you have things to attend to after school. Just uh wanted to ask." Kiri fumbles with his words.
I really can't
"Well, actually." I go over this month's to do's. All that is left is the rent, clothes, and Koji's birthday which I have to buy him glasses for, but I can't just give up on my friends. "How long do you guys plan on staying there?" I can't just reject his request.
"Until visitor hours are over." He says right when Mina walks over. Sero already left with Shoji.
"Oh."
"You could leave earlier if needed, you don't have to stay the whole time!" He quickly adds. He probably guessed that I wasn't gonna go.
"Could I just go home real quick?" I look at the time. The kids will be home soon and I can't let them stay in the house alone with him.
Never again
"Of course. Want us to come?"
"N- no! It won't take long,"
"Cut the bullshit. Let me guess you can't go, you feel really bad, but even so not once have you gone to the hospital to see your friends." Mina interjects. Which as rude as this may sound it wasn't needed.
"It's not like that Mina, I swear!" I plead with her. I know Kiri will side with her, they've been friends since forever, I'm the one intruding in this friendship. Even so, I don't want to be seen as someone different.
I can't stand out.
"It just pisses me off you know? Everyone works their ass off here, yet you don't care at all. Is this a joke to you? People are getting hurt Denki!" Her voice raises and as wimpy as it sounds, it was terrifying. After that it was all a blur, but I believe she rushed over to me and slapped me.
I didn't know what to do so I just stood there, waiting. Waiting for her to give be another slap, maybe a punch, or a kick. Either one. I half expected Kirishima to stop her before she could even get close to my face, but he didn't do anything. I take the risk and look up at him from behind her and his mouth is wide open, but quickly bring my eyes back to the floor. My breathing picks up and I'm hoping it isn't as noticeable as I'm making it.
Mina doesn't do anything else and neither do I. I don't snap, or whine. It's better to stay and wait for the next blow than run.
As fast as it happened, though it felt like an eternity to me, Mina apologizes. "Oh my god Denki, I didn't meant to, I swear, I never should've done that." It wasn't what I was expecting. I expected her to start beating me up right in front of the whole class or something like that.
"Mina, I think we should just meet up there, yeah?" Hagakure pulls on Mina's arm.
But she's frozen for a second still looking at me as if she's on the verge of tears. "y-yeah, ok." She walks out of the classroom with the invisible girl.
"Denki?" Kiri speaks up. The whole room is still silent as if their awaiting for my answer. Waiting for me to brush it off as if nothing happened, but I don't. No matter how hard I try I just can't.
"Sorry." I whisper silently praying that it was quiet enough that no one could hear, but loud enough that Kirishima got the message. "I am so sorry." I quickly pick up my school supplies from my desk and bag from the floor. "I'll uh see you at the hospital, yeah?" It's the only thing I can think of to apologize to Mina.
