"I'm sorry Mr Kim but your wife didn't make it."
Jeon Jungkook heard his colleague break the news as he had done a thousand times, he was on his way to start his shift at the hospital he worked at, and just happened to overhear. He stopped to listen...so far this was the only part of his job he hadn't had experience with, and it worried him...he wasn't sure how he could ever tell a persons loved ones their family member had passed away.
Jeon Jungkook was a second year resident in his medical training, he loved helping people, and before his mother's death she had requested he become a doctor... he was fulfilling his promise to her.
He continued to listen, and upon hearing his colleague leave the family member he turned to watch the man.
He was sat slumped on a chair, looking lost, a young girl wrapped around his shins...Jungkook watched them...he had short brownie-black hair, and a cute face, which right now looked pained and broken. He had a reddish brown stain all over his shirt, and Jungkook wondered what had happened. His heart went out to the man and his daughter, he watched as the young girl, who couldn't have been more than two looked up at her father, she stood up and placed her hand on his lap.
"Pappy where mammy?"
The man looked down at her, and without speaking enveloped her in a hug. He spoke softly to her, and Jungkooks breath caught in his throat, he sounded so broken.
"Mammy is with Grampa now sweetie."
The girl looked confused for a moment, but the realisation soon dawned on her pretty face, and she started whimpering.
"Mammy sleeping?" she questioned her father. Her father nodded, "Like grandpa?" He nodded again.
The young girl looked into her father's face, she studied him for a few seconds then wiped his eyes with her small hand.
"Is that why you are sad Pappy?"
Jungkook gulped, he turned and placed his back against the wall he was peeking around, he didn't know why but their interaction hit him hard in his chest, he felt pain for the man and his daughter. Taking a big gulp of air he turned back to the couple, the little girl was now on her father's knees and she was hugging him tight, Jungkook could see he was crying softly into her hair, while she was patting his back softly. He felt it too, it reminded him of his mother, and a small tear escaped his eye. Wiping furiously he glanced at the clock on the wall.
"Shit, I'm late." He cursed, and after taking one last look at the family he rushed off, for his shift.
It was an uneventful shift, he mainly followed his superiors around, taking notes on specific cases...this was the boring part of his training, but he couldn't get the family from before out of his mind, he wanted to find out more about the man, and his wife's tragedy. He spotted the doctor who broke the news and called him over.
"Hey Ji-Hong, do you have a moment?"
The other doctor stopped and smiled at Jungkook, he was very fond of the second year resident and he walked on over to him, a smile on his face.
"Hey Jungkook, what's up?"
Jungkook wondered how to bring up the man and his daughter, so he just spat it out.
"Can you tell me about what happened to that woman earlier on?"
Ji-Hong looked at him confused.
"Woman?"
"Yea I saw you talking to her husband this morning...she...she passed away"
Comprehension dawned on Ji-Hong's face.
