Joey's POV
We are FINALLY back in Nashville. I couldn't wait to see Susanna. Man, I had missed that girl like crazy, while we were away. Just a few days had passed with us being apart, but I guess I'd grown attached to her and her silliness. Last time I talked on the phone with her, she seemed a little distant. Maybe she's been missing me too.
Even though I am anxious to get back so I can go hang out with Susanna, the guys decide we should stop somewhere and get a bite to eat. They managed to get me off the bus and we were heading into the restaurant. I looked at my band mates, "Guys, I think I'm losing it. I thought I just saw Sus through that window."
"Ooh is somebody twitter-patted?" Alan teased.
"Dude, you've been watcing Bambi with your girls again, haven't you?" I said with a laugh.
"What can I say. I love my little princesses." Alan said with a shrug.
Our joking was cut short, after we got inside the restaurant. That had to be Susanna. But who was she with, if it was her. "Maybe it's a brother or something." Caleb reasoned.
"She doesn't have any siblings." I said, we made our way over towards the table where they sat laughing. "Hey, Susanna. Is that you?"
Susanna turned and a bright smile lit up her face, but as her eyes met mine, the light dimmed and it felt like a wall was up between us. "Hey guys." I could tell she was putting up a front for some reason, to me she was as easy to read as a story book. "Alan, Caleb, Chad, Joey. This is Max, he owns the diner and bookstore. Max, this is the guys of Anthem Lights that I was telling you about."
"Nice to meet you all. I've heard a lot about you. You've got great music too." Max replied in his polite tone.
I couldn't stand this any longer. Without a word I left. I'd walk back to the studio. Let her fall in love with someone else. See if I cared!
Susanna's POV
My heart hurt when I saw Joey first come in the door, each time our eyes met hit me again. What if I was just a friend to him, or the chemistry I thought we had was all just an act. But what hurt the most was when he stormed out of the restaurant. All I could do was watch him leave, the sound of my heart breaking ringing in my ears.
I searched the faces of Alan, Caleb and Chad. "What's wrong with Joey?"
Chad's hand balled up into a fist, his words came out like someone grinding with sandpaper. "He probaby decided he needed to visit the gym." Chad's eyes locked with Max's. "Yeah, Joey works out. Really strong too. He's got macho muscles, all the girls go crazy over, and can play just about any instrument." He gave a 'so there' look and the heated emotion in his eyes was frightening.
Alan put a hand on Chad's shoulder, "Guys, we should make our order and be on our way."
Alan directed Chad away. Caleb just looked me straight in the eyes, his gaze holding disappointment as he shook his head and followed the older two band mates. None of the guys had ever treated me that coldly. It hurt my already aching heart even more. What had I done? Was this pain going to be endless.
I watched the band get their food and then the big bus pulled away. But Joey was already long gone before. Part of me wanted to hide in the corner and cry. The other part of me, was wishing I had my car down here, so I could catch up with him.
