Chapter Twenty One

Susanna's POV

        Well it's finally time. I have just stuffed all of my needed stuff into the back of Donald's new car and "oddly" enough a bunch of stuff was piled into the front passenger seat. So that left me and Joey in the backseat together. I so think his brother planned that.

        Donald chatted with us as we made our way out of Nashville and onward and upward. We didn't even have to have any music, but we did part of the time... better to sing like crazy along with. Seriously it's pretty much a wonder we didn't get pulled over and taken to the loony bin. But all just in fun. We stopped along the way and got a bite to eat. Alan must have rubbed off on me a little cause, I broke up a play fight between the two brothers I was traveling with pretty quickly. Pretty proud of myself about that.

        We continue back on the road and I'm really enjoying this mini road trip. I'm going to miss everybody. I tell them both about my best friend, sister in Christ, neighbor, Lynn. And how I'm going to be meeting up with her, and where they can drop me off at. My eyelids start feeling heavy and before I know it, I'm out like a light.

Joey's POV

        We have just entered the county line of Susanna's hometown. Her head is on my shoulder and she is asleep. She looks so pretty. Donald makes a psst sound and wiggles his eyebrows at me in the rear view mirror. "Get your eyes back on the road Donny!" I whisper back at him... maybe just a little to loud.

        Susanna wakes up and blinks at me. She smiles when our eyes meet and then she looks around. She sits up quickly in her seat, and I instantly wish her head was on my shoulder again. "Hey! We're almost there." The minutes fly by, and soon we are nearing a restaurant, and there is a red head about Susanna's height waving like crazy. That must be her best friend, Lynn. We pull to a stop and Donald parks the car.

        Sus is the first out of the car and races to the redhead. They tackle each other in a hug. "Ahh!!! I've missed you like crazy, sis!!!" Susanna squeals. She grins, "I guess I should introduce you. Guys, this is Lynn, my best friend since... a really long time." She points to me. "This is Joey Stamper."

        Before she can add anything else, Lynn reaches out and shakes my hand. "Nice to meet you. She's told me a lot about you."

        I think I see panic in Susanna's eyes as she coughs. "AND! This is his brother, Donald!"

        I shift my eyes to Donald and immediately have to hold back a laugh. He's speechless. "Uh.. hi.." He manages. I glance at Susanna, and see her and Lynn exchange looks and silly grins.

        We talk for a few more minutes as we unload Susanna's stuff out of the car, and then we have to leave. Donald waves at the girls, his eyes lingering on Lynn and a blush covering his face. He pushes something wrapped in wrapping paper into Susanna's hand, wonder what that could be. I have to say I'm slightly enjoying this. Susanna hugs me. "You two take care. I'll be praying for y'all and your trip. And strength for Jeanie." She shots me a silly grin.

        "Don't bring Mom into this." I playfully whine back. "I'll miss ya Sus." Her response back to me is a weak smile, and a wave. We exchange good bye's and my brother and I are back on the road.

        "Wow." Donald breaths out. Must be talking about Lynn.

        I reply back, "Yeah." My mind however is on Susanna

Susanna's POV

        I eagerly unwrap the present from Donald to find the program from Joey's first play he was ever in... and a DVD with a note that says. "Enjoy watching this. ;)"

Sorry for the chapter's shortness today... I just wasn't really feeling a big writing burst today... probably because I don't have much time to write this today.
