Susanna's POV
I'm doing my best not to dwell on Joey's stunned silence when I told him about my feelings. I knew I should have just kept my mouth shut. I mean really, a famous Christian singer like him... what would he want with dating a nobody like me. To distract my thoughts, I pick up my purse and start searching in it for my phone, while Joey is gone to get napkins for us. (We stopped by Chick-fil-a to grab a bite to eat before heading back to work on some tour planning.)
Why does it always seem that what ever you are searching for in a purse goes straight to the bottom? Is that like an unwritten law of the universe? How hard could a cell phone possibly be to find. I grasp onto something. I know it's not my phone, it is far too cylindrical. Maybe my inhaler? I pull the mystery item out and a flood of memories wash down upon me.
My bus ride to Nashville. The intimidating grizzly looking bus driver. Who turned out to be a teddy bear of a man. Realizing I hadn't thought about lodging before I came down here. How God had prepared a way by the bus driver's great niece looking for a roommate. Then getting lost as the sky got darker. Running into a guy in a red Ohio sweatshirt and sunglasses, and almost spraying him with my new pepper spray gift.
It was now that Joey happened to return.
Joey's POV
I came back to the table with napkins in my hands. Susanna has a huge smile on her face. "Well you sure you look happy." I tell her as I sit down.
"Look what I found. It made me remember my first day here in Nashville." She opens up her hand showing me the pink pepper spray Jake had given her. I laugh and can't wipe the smile off my face. This girl intrigued me from the first moment. "You aren't planning on using that on me for real this time are you?"
She shakes her head. "No." She glances at me, "Unless you get too ridiculous." To which she laughs even harder. We say grace over our food and eat, talking a little as we do.
In the back of my mind, my mind keeps going back to earlier today when she told me she likes me. I didn't say anything. Didn't feel right. There's someone I have to speak to first.
