Ariel's POV
The first light of day bleed through the crack of the thick curtains as I slowly opened my eyes. It took me a second to realize that I slept over at this place and that I'm not in my own bed.I got myself out of bed, with the little energy that I have, and made my way down the stairs, hearing people talking.
I sat myself down at a bar stool by the kitchen island as I watched Sam talking to Fiona about something. I wasn't exactly paying attention to what they were saying since I started to feel a bit more drowsy.
Sam finally turned around to see me, startling herself as she saw my bed head.
"Oh my devil, you scared me Ariel." She took a breath and calmed herself down.
"What are you doing so up at this hour?" She asked as she packed her bag with some snacks, like raisins, cashews, and a granola bar.
"I'm a bit hungry." I yawned the words out, exhausted. I should've stayed in bed but my fat ass wanted food.
"Oh damn, I'm about to leave for work. Maybe when Jess wakes up she'll make you something." She tossed the bag over her shoulder as Jess made herself present.
"How about a nice bowl of cereal huh?" I turned around to see Jess as a hot mess. Her hair was everywhere and her eye bags were very visible. She's wearing a blank v-neck tee, short where her stomach shows a little, a pair of gray sweats, white socks with a pair of slides.
"Wow, I'm sorry I don't have cash on me. How's living under the bridge though?" Sam laughed at her insult as Jess gave her the finger and walked into the kitchen to make herself a cup of coffee.
"Jess, can you please cook Ariel breakfast?" Jess looked up and turned to me and asked,
"Chili Pepper, how old are you?" She turned her head towards me.
"I'm 16." I answered back.
"See? She can cook for herself. She's of age." Jess gave Sam a cocky smirk.
"Oh please, you learned how to cook just last year." I almost burst out laughing and covered my mouth when Jess shot a look at me.
"Fine, I'll cook for her." She grabbed a frying pan and turned the stove on.
"Well, I'll be off now. I'll see you guys later." Sam walks towards the front door, but stops to tell Jess something.
"Oh and Jess, don't forget to feed Onyx." She called to her.
"Unholy shit Samantha what else you want me to do?!" She walks out, cup of coffee in her hand, and gave Sam the most terrifying facial expression ever.
"Nothing else that's all. Bye." With that, she left the house, leaving me, Jess, and Onyx, who's rubbing against my leg.
Jess grunts as she gets back into the kitchen and opens the fridge.
"Gingerbread, come here." She called to me as I got up and walked into the kitchen.
"Grab that basket, go to the chicken coop that's in the backyard, and grab six eggs. I'm making you an omelette." She points to the basket that's on the counter as she grabs onions, peppers, and spinach from the fridge to prepare what she's going to make for me.
I grabbed the basket and walked out to the back to fetch the eggs.
It was very foggy to the point where you can barely see anything, but I managed to find the chicken coop and placed six eggs in the basket.
As I was putting the last egg in, I heard what sounded like crying. I stopped and listened carefully as to where the crying was coming from.
The more I listened closely, the more it came to me that it sounded like a baby crying.
