"Jess, quit smoking. You're gonna get lung cancer." Benny said jokingly.
"Bitch shut the fuck up, you're not my doctor." She exclaimed as took an inhale from her cigarette.
"How much do you smoke per day?" Stella asked.
"I smoke about 'none of your damn business' times." Jess gave Stella a fake smile and she rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"So, Halloween is coming up, anyone got any plans on what we should do?" Ben played with his fingers as he asked.
"Nah, I'm not interested to do anything this year." Jess answered while looking down at her feet.
"Aww come on Jess, you say that every year, and yet you still tag along."
"I know but this year I'm not fee-"
Jess was abruptly interrupted by noises coming from the water. She turned and looked out towards the lake. The blue moon's light reflected on the surface of the crystal water. It shined down to what looked like a creature with its head on the top of the water.
All you can see from the creature is it's dark, black, straight hair and it's pearl white eyes, looking directly at the campsite.
It stayed still, in the water, just watching them. Without making a single sound.
What the fuck is that?
Jess thought to herself. She got up and walked towards the water to get a closer look.
"Jess where are you going?" Manny asked and followed behind.
Jess stood next to a tree and eyed the creature.
The creature noticed Jess and it's attention went from the group to her. This made Jess very uncomfortable, as she has no idea what she's looking at.
"Jess,"
"Shh. Don't talk too loud." Jess shushed Manny, telling him to keep his voice down with her eyes still on the being.
"What are you looking at?" Manny whispered to her. Jess pointed out to the water.
"You see that thing?" Manny followed her finger and noticed the creature in the water as well.
"What is that?" Jess shrugged."What should we do? It's looking right at us."
"Hey listen, if that thing thinks it's funny to mess with us, we have weapons to defend us and protect the others." Manny quietly calmed her down, Jess turned to face him, with panic in her eyes.
"You think that's what hurt Ariel?" Jess felt uneasy, but Manny pulled her into a hug.
"Hey, nothing bad will happen, I promise." Manny comforted her and she nodded.
Jess turned and saw that the creature was gone.
"Where did it go?" Jess asked in terror.
"Let's just go back to the campsite and rest. I'll stay up and watch over you guys." He takes Jess with him and both walked back to the campsite. He told the others that they should go to sleep as he put out the fire.
The group went to their tents but Manny stayed outside with axe in hand, in case whoever this creature is, would come and attack.
Manny's POV
I don't get something. Jess never panics or gets stressed out easily. Why was she in fear when we both saw what was in the water?I thought to myself as I sat down on the old log and watched as the world around me was dark and quiet.
I mean, I have to admit. She did fought a living scarecrow and was possessed the day before so she's had enough with everything happening. I don't really understand as to why all of this is happening though.
Is it because Ariel is here?
Who knows, but something done seem right.
It's like something is going after Ariel and Jess.
Besides Jess, I take care of the crap that goes on around the house. I been living with the group for almost 10 years. What happened before that, wasn't pleasant at all...
Backstory
Growing up as a Minotaur, the males were expected to know how to fight and defend.By the age of five years, I started my training. My father taught me everything that I know to this day.
I have an older brother, but, he's what my dad would like to call him a "disappointment".
He refused to listen to our father and rebel against his free will, then one day, they both had a huge fight. It was horrible, and it made my brother leave home. I haven't seen him since then.
Months went by, and we received news from Satan that we'll be going to war.
At the time, I was grown and all matured. My father on the other hand, was now old.
He couldn't be drafted to war, but I insisted that I can fight for him.
You might be wondering, "What about your mom?" My mother passed away when I was three years old and life felt empty.
However, I know she'll watch over me in the battle field. Being my guardian angel.
I hugged my father goodbye before I get on the truck. As I walked down our front door, he stopped me by grabbing my hand, making me look back at him.
He told me, "Stay strong, even when there's obstacles in your path" before letting go and closing the door.
I stood there, dumbfounded.
The driver honked on his horn, snapping me back to reality and sprinted towards the truck and hopping on in.
The drive was long and boring. Took about 4 hours until we arrived at our base.
As I got there, someone gave me a card with a number on it. They assigned me a tent with someone I don't know.
It didn't bother me too much, so I just hurried along to my tent.
Our tent was by a lake and they're all aligned facing away from the water.
I saw that our tent was open, thinking that my roommate already arrived. I walked in, seeing another Minotaur unpacking. He noticed my presence and smiled.
"Hey, you're my tent buddy right?" He asked with a grin on his face.
"Uhh yeah I am. I'm Manuel." I introduced myself.
"I'm Steve, nice to meet you."
I lend out my hand, offering to shake it, but what he did was unexpected.
He pulled me into a hug. He hugged me real tight, I thought my ribs were about to snap. I gave myself in and hugged him back.
"Oh boy, we're gonna have a hell of a good time while we're together." He went and grabbed two cans of cold beer.
"So where are you from?" He sat down, opening his can when he asked.
"I'm from Luna Falls, but the rural part of it. My dad never liked the city." I answered.
"What about you?"
"I'm from the most run down part of Luna Falls...
I'm not very proud of where I can from." He looked down at his feet. I got up and sat next to him for comfort."Hey man, it's alright, we all come out from our shitty past." I patted his shoulder he then looked up and smiled.
"Thanks man. I appreciate it." He led out his cold brew, asking for a toast and I clashed my can against his.
"Boys, let's go. We got some training to do."
To be continued...
