"Hello, princess," he whispered, with that british accent that made him sound so fancy and royal.
My breath was taken. At the end of the stairs was standing the beautiful man that kept appearing on my dreams.
I gasped taken back by the whole place. Everything was beautiful. I looked down at myself realizing that I was wearing a beautiful pink gown, instead of my usual back dress. My hair was on fleak and there was no spot of dirt on my clothes and my skin. I chuckled.
I started walking down the stairs towards the man that was wating with his hand laying, waiting for my hand to take.
I looked at his beautiful blue sparkly eyes that were full of love. My stomach tingled at his gaze. No boy has ever looked at me like that.
"Hi, my prince," I said. He smiled and I beautiful dimple appeared on his cheek that made me want to poke it. But I held back the urge.
He took my hand and let me out of the darkness of the room and onto the spotlight.
He slowly placed one hand gently around my waist and pulled me closer.
"You look gorgeous tonight, princess" he whispered looking straight into my eyes.
I wanted to scream, but I let my heart do all the craziness.
We danced around, our bodies moving perfectly in sync.
He kept looking at me and I did the same.
"Who are you?" I suddenly asked him. "And why do you keep appearing?"
"My name is prince Hero" he paused. "And you are my princess, Josephine. The love of my life" he said so genuinely I almost peed myself.
"Princess?" I asked in disbelief.
I bit my lip. We started leaning into each other. Our foreheads touched but our lips never met.
"JOSEPHINE, GET YOUR BUTT OFF THE BED YOU LAZY GIRL, YOU ARE LATE FOR WORK!" I heard my nana shout and I mentally groaned.
"Did you have to butt in now? I was at the best part!" I murmured still sleepy.
"Stop dreaming about your nonexistant prince and wake up!"
I jumped off the bed rubbing my eyes.
"You should have seen him, nana! He was so beautiful! And he looked at me like I was the most precious thing in the world. And we danced around and was so ugh!" I said and twirled around making my night gown twirl as well.
"You don't even know if he's real," my nana said adding jelly to our breakfast bread. Jelly? We only ate jelly in special occassion.
"He is! I saw him in church the other day. He was praying and he looked like he was a godsent angel. I just couldn't stop staring at him!" I said dreamily looking out of the window. Then I sighed. "But the thing is... He never looked at me. Not once"
I knew he was an aristocrat. A person from one of those good families. With money and cars and food every day. All of those aristocrats never laid their eyes on us. We were dirty. Their eyes couldn't take the filth.
"Okay, so if you met him in real life, then what's his name?"
"It's..." I hesitated. I knew it. I knew his name. He had told me in my dream but I couldn't seem to remember.
My nana shook her head in disaproval. "See? Anyway, now come and eat your brithday breakfast birthday girl!"
Birthday?
OH MY GOD MY SIXTEENTH BIRTHDAY!!
How could I have forgotten about it?
Nana hugged me and wished me luck.
I was finally sixteen. Almost legal. Almost out of working at the trash yard.
I started getting ready. Nana had already a backet filled with water from the well for me to shower. I was so thankful that the water wasn't that cold that day.
I put on my black dress, my only dress, and my black converse. The sun was shining. It was such a beautiful day. I started jumping around. As I reach my working place, with nana, I spotted my two best friends, Max and Bella. They were siblings, twins actually and looked so much alike. I waved at them.
"Bella, It's Jo!" Max yelled as he spotted me. He ran straight to me as I did the same. I jumped into his arms and he twirled me around.
"Happy birthday, beautiful!" He complimented me.
"Thanks, Maxuel!" He groaned at the name and I ruffled his blond hair happily. "Now, I'm older than you so you get to do what I say," I told him and he groaned once again.
"I don't think that's how it works. Older or not, men are the ones that give orders here," he said proudly lifting his head and crossing his arms.
"Well, too bad you're still a child"
"I'm only fifteen!" He exclaimed.
Bella quickly pushed him out of the way and hugged me.
"Happy birthday, friend"
"Thank you, friend" I whispered back.
We started working, all of us collecting trash. I was hoping to find something good to wear, like those converse that I'm wearing. I found them last year and they were in a pretty good condition so I took them.
After a couple of hours, and tones of dirt on my body, I heard a high pitched scream.
"Josephine!"
It was my nana.
I looked at her direction only to find her on her knees, her eyes wide, like she was chocking.
"Nana!" I ran to her.
"Josephine-" she choked out "c-call the doc-ctor"
I told Max and Bella to go find the doctor while I helped nana to go home. I laid her on the bed there. She was pale and emotionless.
A few minutes later, she passed away.
