CHAPTER 4
A/N: I had to write chapter four in Four's Point of View if you know what I mean! Please comment! I do not own any characters. Thanks, oh, and PS the beginning of this chapter starts right after Tris catches the ball and Four gets out.
(Four's POV)
Tris got me out! She caught the softball right as I was running to second base! Wow this morning I ran into her and she just looked like a little sophomore, but something has changed now.
I look over to where she stands, her arms and legs are blue with bruises and I'm curious why. Were they self inflicted? No, no one in their right mind would do that much damage to themself.
The game goes on. Just as her brother begins to run to second base I can tell something is up. He's going too fast and isn't going to be able to stop; he doesn't stop in time. Caleb runs right into Tris's side. It looks like she's trying to move out of the way, but he just moves with her. He fakes a stumble, causing it to look more like an accident, but anyone with eyes can tell that that defiantly wasn't an accident. I jump up and start to run towards Tris's small body with Coach K at my side.
"Four! Take her to the office, she is just stunned. Let the nurse check her out just to make sure." I do as Coach K asks and pick her up like a baby: one arm under her knees and the other under her back. When I lift her up she feels so lightweight. Tris doesn't move when I stand up; her eyes are closed and her breathing is coming in short gasps.
Tris isn't wearing any makeup, and her hair is up in a simple pony tail. She is...beautiful. Lauren, on the other hand, covers her face in so much makeup she looks fake. She always complains about how I don't care about true beauty, but, to tell the truth, Lauren doesn't know the first thing about beauty.
I walk into Nurse Ashley's office and the moment she spots Tris laying in my arms she jumps up.
"Oh my! What happened?" She gasps.
I lay Tris down on the little bed against the back wall. She moans as I put her down.
"Softball accident. Is she okay?" I don't want to go into details on what happened.
Ashley walks over and looks at the bruises on Tris's arms. I don't like seeing Tris in pain. She is obviously coming around because her moans become louder and her eyes flutter open.
"What the..." Tris grumbles as she tries to sit up. Ashley quickly stops her and gently pushes her Tris back down onto her back.
"Why am I in here? I need to go." Again she tries to sit up and I see her face scrunch up in pain.
"Tris, you need to stay here for a little while. Don't worry, since today is the first day back it's only a half day. After lunch it will be time to go home." I say walking over to her side. She looks up at me with a confused look on her face.
"Four?" Her voice is so quiet and soft I wouldn't be able to hear it if I hadn't been listening. "Why are you here?"
"Uh, I brought you here." I answer.
"Here, take this. It will help with the pain." Ashley says to Tris as she hands her a small white pill and glass of water.
Tris gladly drinks all of the water. Ashley walks out of the room, leaving us here alone. Tris lays back on the bed and I hear her sigh. She looks pretty.
"Wait, get ahold of yourself, Four, you have a girlfriend!" I thought.
Ugh, I just remembered, I have plans with Lauren at lunch—that is in less than five minutes. I really don't want to be with Lauren and Tris shouldn't be staying here like this by herself. I need to tell Lauren plans are off.
"Hey, Tris, it's time for lunch. Want me to bring you anything?"
She looks over at me and slowly nods her head.
"Okay, I'll be right back." I leave the room and head down the hall towards the cafeteria. Britney, Lauren's best friend, is standing by the doors. When I walk over she gives a high pitched giggle and says, "Hi, Four."
"Hey, Britney. Have you seen Lauren?"
She nods her head.
"Yeah, we skipped last class together. She's in the bathroom now."
"Skipped on the first day? Dauntless."
She giggles when I said dauntless— it is getting really annoying.
"Lauren said she can't wait for after lunch. She never told me what you guys were doing...so what are you two going to do?" She giggles once again and I mentally sigh. When will this girl learn to shut up with all the gigling?
"Well, Britney...we are going to..." Before I could tell her, Lauren walks over.
"Hey, Four!" Laura yells.
I think I heard Britney sigh, sounding very disappointed when Lauren walked up.
"So, I thought that since lunch isn't really a class and right after we just get to go home that maybe we could just leave now and pick up lunch later. Does that sound okay?" Lauren says, a mischievous look in her eyes.
Oh, no. I can't leave Tris, she is injured.
"Umm, about that. You see, Lauren...in PE a friend of mine got hurt very bad...and she..." I don't know how to tell her.
"Wait, she?" Lauren is getting mad, I can tell.
"There are more girls in my life than just you." I snap. The moment it came out of my mouth I regretted it.
"Four!" Her lip is starting to quiver and she is yelling.
"That's not what I meant, Lauren!"
She turns around and starts to storm away with me with Britney at her heels.
"You know what, Four, or what ever your real name is, we are over! Sorry, Mr. Quarterback!"
I can't help but smile. I no longer have to deal with Lauren! Yes! I go into the lunch room with a smile on my face. As soon as I get a tray full of food I leave and head back to the nurse's office.
