CHAPTER 14
(TrisPOV) A/N: it is official Spring Break! Yeah! Except it is super windy outside!
Mornings were usually a good time for me, but today I seemed to have slept through morning. When I looked over at my clock I sighed at the time dragging myself up from the comfort of my bed. I guess Coach K's workout had made me so tired I slept past the start of school. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes I walked to the bathroom and jumped in the shower.
After getting clean, fixing my hair, and putting on a green tee shirt and pink shorts. I check my phone. I had five new messages which wasn't surprising.
TOBIAS: Hey r u ok?
CHRISTINA: where r u?
CALEB: Get up
URIAH: R u still coming 2 party 2night?
TOBIAS: I going 2 come over
The last message was sent five minutes ago. He should be here any second. I went down to the kitchen to find some breakfast. There was some left over pizza so I took a cold slice and started eating. Tobias ran in the door as soon as I closed the fridge. He looked scared. When he saw me he seemed to relax.
"Tris come on school started an hour ago. I thought Caleb might have hurt you please don't leave me hanging like that please." He seemed out of breath. Even though his worried look had disappeared he still seemed stressed.
"Sorry I just woke up late. Don't worry about me I have delt with Caleb's beatings for a long time." I didn't need someone standing over me asking if I was okay all the time even though I appreciated his concern.
"Tris, how long has Caleb been beating you?" That was a question I knew I could answer, but wasn't sure if I wanted to. What did it matter when he started? Part of me wanted to keep that embarrassing truth hidden, but then Tobias deserved to know more about my past and I wasn't going to deny him that. I sighed then began the story.
"When we were little we always fought my mother encouraged him. She would say things like 'don't let her win,' and 'you can beat her.' My dad was always at work so he never knew about it. We got older and he kept wanting to fight and I didn't. That's when he really started beating me. Two years ago he beat me until I was close to death. My mom told him to take me to the hospital and he refused. So they called my dad waited an hour till he got home and told him I had fallen down the stairs. That's when he found out about it really." I told him my story and I thought I could see tears in Tobias's blue eyes. He was quiet for a minute. Maybe after hearing my story he released he didn't want to know my pain.
"Come on we need to get to school." He took my hand. I grabbed my backpack and went out to Annabelle. Ten minutes later we were at school. I walked into PE with Tobias at my side. The teacher looked up, "We are just running laps. Get to it." So we started running.
After gym we all met in theater where I noticed Robert kept looking over at me. I kept my eyes down trying to focus on class. No one else seemed to notice though. We practiced our play again. Robert was casted as a sevent in the Capulets house.
It was time for me and Tobias to kiss. That's when Robert looked pale as a ghost. When we kissed he stood up and left. I tried to ignore it, but I felt sorry for him. Class ended and the day went on. The rest of my classes went by fast. It was time for the big dance! I couldn't wait. My thoughts of Robert left. Christina and I walked outside together both excited for tonight. Christina's sister was going to take us to her house to get ready.
