CHAPTER 5

(TrisPOV)

I've just been laying here, feeling my body throb in pain. Four is going to bring me back some food. Thank goodness right after lunch we can leave. Except, the thought of having to walk home makes me cringe. It would be a long painful walk and most likely my mom would yell at me for being late.

Four walks with a tray full of food and a silly grin on his face.

   "What?" I ask.

He just shakes his head which makes me smile. I like it— how happy he is.

"Umm, Four? Could you help me sit up?"

"Oh, sure." He puts the food down, slides one arm behind me, and gently helps me up. Even though it hurts like crazy, I keep from screaming out in pain. Four hands me the tray and I instantly dig into whatever kind of meat they were serving for lunch in the cafeteria. If this is meat. I skipped breakfast and my stomach is growling so I really don't care.

"So how much time till we can leave?" I ask. This room doesn't have a clock.

He pulls out his iPhone 6 and looks back at me. "About ten more minutes. I will go through that away for you if you want." He stands up and takes my tray with him. I sit there waiting for him to get back. The medicine Nurse Ashley gave me is finally working and now my muscles don't hurt. I try to stand up; my legs are sore and I sorta limp when I walk, but other than that I am fine.

When Four comes back into the room he notices me standing up. I am still wearing my gym clothes that are covered in sweat and dirt.

"Come on, I will walk you back to the changing rooms." He says. In response I start to limp towards the door.

"Well you got a bad limp," he puts an arm around my waist and helps support me as I walk.

"Thanks. Umm, here's my locker, let me just grab a few things." I put some textbooks and paper into my backpack and finish getting stuff organized and ready. Four does the same since his locker is next to mine. Once we both finish he holds my waist again and we walk towards the gym.

"I will be right back." I say before I quickly go in the locker room, change, and come back out. This time I don't bother to put my jacket on. He has already seen my bruises so why try and hide them?

About three minutes later we are  on our way towards the parking lot. Lunch hasn't ended just yet, but it should still be okay if we leave.

"Which car is yours?" He tilts his head to the parking lot.

"Huh? Oh I am just fifteen, I can't drive yet." I look over to the red jeep that belongs to my brother. He refuses to even let me sit in the car, let alone give me a lift to school.

"Come on then. I will give you ride." He walks over to a black Ferrari and pats the side. "Tris, meet Annabelle." It has been so long since I've ridden in a car. Last year I rode the bus to school, but I didn't like the crowd. Walking gives me freedom, but I'm not a big fan of it when I am injured. Even though I would have loved to ride with Four I know it wasn't right.

"Annabelle? You're kidding. But, Four, I just met you this morning. I don't think it would be...right." I hesitate slightly. What am I supposed to say? Part of me wants to jump into the car and enjoy the adventure; the other half tells me to walk home, go to my room, and wait for Caleb. Ugh! Why would I ever want to be with my brother?! Who cares, I want to ride in Annabelle! "You know what, I will take a ride!" I say with a smile on my face.

I jump into the passenger side seat and buckle up. Four starts the car and we begin to drive out of the school's parking lot.

"Just give me the directions to your house."

I nod and point out the way as we go. About five minutes later we turn onto Amity Avenue.

"That's my house." I point to the two story grey house.

Four slams on the brakes, making my body lurch forward.

  "What?"

"Well, that's your house and that's my house." He says, pointing to the home next to mine. It is right where my room's window faces.

"I just moved in two days ago. Well, nice to meet you neighbor." He says.

I nod, still shocked that Four lives right next to me.

"We should hang out sometime..." He says.

"Yeah. Sure." I walk to the front of my house and go to open the door. Once I get in I sneak through the living room, heading for the stairs. Suddenly, my mother steps out in front of me before I can walk into my room.

"Why are you home so early? Skipping school?" She pushes me back; her breath reeks of alcohol.

"I had a friend drop me off. I got hurt during PE so I stayed in the nurses office. " I explain, all the while trying to stealthily get around her.

My mother looks straight into my eyes and slaps me as hard as she can. Tears threaten to pour down my face. I push past her and run into my room. After slamming my door shut I throw my backpack at the wall. I start pacing back and forth, running my fingers through my hair. The pain medicine is beginning to wear off and slowly my muscles are starting to hurt.

"Ugh!" I scream into a pillow.

My life is horrible and no one loves me! I fall on my bed and drift off to sleep; then dreams come over me.

All of the sudden I am standing outside an unfamiliar house. The door opens and Christina motions for me to come in. Uriah is standing next to Zeke and all of our friends are sitting or laying on the floor, smiling and laughing.

"Come on, Tris, we're playing Truth or Dare! It's Four's turn." I now notice Four sitting on the floor against the couch.

"Hmm...Dare. Make this one good." Four says, then laughs. His laugh is so beautiful— I can't take my eyes off of him.

Uriah stands, thinking for second, then says with a mischievous grin on his face, "Kiss your crush!"

Four stares at Uriah and laughs again. I know it's not me. Who would love me? So I go and stand with Christina while Four looks around the room.

"Okay. Tris, come here." I jump at the sound of my name. What? What! Did he just choose me? He stands up and walks over to me. My heart beat is going a mile a minute and my hands become sweaty. Four leans close to me and whispers in my ear, "Tris, you're my crush." When he pulls back I look into his eyes, getting lost in the deep blue color. Then he puts his hands around my waist and slowly leans in. This is really happening! We were so close to kissing when I hear a loud bang— then I wake up. No! No! No!

I walk over to my window, which is wide open, and look out. My brother's red jeep is sitting in the driveway. Ugh. I can hear my mother say, "How was school?"

I can't hear what he said but I know he must have gotten in trouble for body slamming me.

My mother adores my brother but despises me. I don't know why but she just does. I can now hear my brother's footsteps walking up the stairs, coming towards my room. Not knowing anything else to do I just sit there and wait quietly.
