CHAPTER 11

A/N: I posted another story called A Cursed Life. Please read and comment.

(Tris POV)

We go and buy burgers, which are delicious, by the way, with fifteen minutes left until we have to be back at school.

I think about my special tree in the park. I am the only person who used the tree; and Tobias is my boyfriend now, so he should have the opportunity to know my safe place.

"Do you know where that little park is? The one that we pass on the way home?" I ask him. He nods and in three minutes we are pulling up into the small parking lot. "Come on, I want to show you something."

We run to the edge of the playground. I take his hand and guide Tobias through the maze of trees. Finally we show up to my tree -- my safe place.

"Follow me." I start to climb, making sure that Tobias can see which branches are safe to step on. His face is red and he looks out of breath. "You okay?"

"Huh? Oh yeah just...I am afraid of heights. I'll be fine." We keep climbing until I reach a long branch. It's about as thick as a bench, which makes it easy to sit on. It's probably the size of a small bed. "This is one big tree!" Four says as he sits down beside me.

"When I was little I decided one day to run away. I found this tree and climbed it, hoping to hide here for a while. Lots of families came and had picnics out here so I would steal the food when I was hungry. I got really good at it too. Caleb never came to look for me, nor did my mother. See, Caleb physically abuses me and my mother mentally. I could run away and survive as long as I needed to, but...what's the point? I still had to go to school. When I ran away I stayed here a total of six and a half days; then I went home got the worst beating I've ever had. They actually had to take me to the hospital and said I was attacked by a dog." The whole time I tell him my story Tobias just sits there, looking down at our feet.

"Oh." That's all he says. "We have like five minutes left until we are needed back at school. You ready?"

"Not really, but let's still go." We climb down and go back to school.

Christina is standing outside the theater room when we get there. Still two minutes before lunch ends. "Hey." I say and she raises one eyebrow, giving me a questioning look.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" She asks and I nod. Christina drags me to a small empty room down the hall.

"Mmmmhmmm. So we looked for you and you weren't here. Literally me, Will, Marlene, and Lynn looked all throughout the school and couldn't find you. Want to know what's weird? We couldn't find Four either." She says looking at me with a strange expression.

"You didn't tell anyone we kissed? Please don't, Christina!" I plead. I don't want the whole school knowing that I kissed Four, or he kissed me.

"Nope, not yet, but I have to know were you two..." She raises both eyebrows and I immediately know what she means.

"Oh, Christina, no! No! But we are officially dating. Still, I don't want to tell anybody yet."

Ugh, Christina has such a dirty mind. I look around the room we're in. There are a few tables and chairs stacked together. It is the size of a storage closet.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anybody, but when you say I can, I will go crazy. Marlene, on the other hand, is super mad. You left her hanging at lunch and didn't tell where you were going. By the way, where did you go?" Christina asks.

"Just out eat. Nothing serious." I assure her.

"Oh, but Tris when you do... I need to know! I am your best friend so you must tell me! Don't worry, I will tell you about my love life later. We got to go." She says, walking out of the little storage room. "Hey, Four." She says obnoxiously as we pass him. When we get into theater, Mrs. Bates has already started the lesson.
