I couldn't leave if I wanted to
Powerful - Ellie Goulding

Another two months passed and Thanksgiving was here. I was so nervous because Sophia was with us, but Austin's parents were flying in.
"They are the coolest, baby." I had been cleaning for two weeks and Austin was getting irritated. He grabbed my hand and pulled away my rag. "Relax. It's spotless for one and two, have you seen me?"

I gave him a 'shut up' look before kissing him.
"I just want them to like me."
"They'll love you just like I do." He pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head. Sophia was helping me set the table and make sure we had plenty of ice.

"Mommy, you look so pretty." She was playing with my dress hem and Austin got off the phone with his parents.
"They just left my house."
"Oh god," I sighed, basting the turkey in the oven.
"You'll be fine," he assured me again, taking my hand and kissing it. "Relax baby."
"I'm gonna throw up." I told him that in confidence. The next 20 minutes were agony but Austin went to answer the door that was being knocked on.

"Hey mom." He pulled his into a hug and I waited in the kitchen. Sophia went running to the door and I almost yelled at her not to.
"This is Natalies daughter Sophia. She's almost 4." I took a couple steps over to see them. Sophia curtsied like Austin had taught her and I couldn't help but laugh. I sucked up my feeling and walked to my boyfriends parents.

"Hello, I'm Natalie." I held my hand out to the couple and his mom pulled me into a hug instead.
"It's so nice to finally meet you Natalie! Austin loves you and your little girl so much." I smiled and pulled away to make eye contact.
"I think we're pretty fond too." Austin's dad pulled me into a hug as well and I smiled because they looked just alike.

"How was the flight?" Austin asked as he took their coats. I brought Sophia to the kitchen so she could help me set up the table with all the food. They caught up and I popped open a few bottles of wine. Austin heard the cork pop and I smiled innocently as he looked at me.
"Are we getting into trouble in here?" Richard asked. I smiled and put the bottle on the table.

"I'm sure we'll go through these."
"Plus the two we brought." I laughed and took the bag he was offering. "I'm sure you'll hear this a lot more than once, but I've never been to a Thanksgiving or holiday dinner with Austin's girlfriend. This is a first."

"For me as well. I can't tell you how thankful I am for the man you raised."
"Alright, stop talking shit guys I'm coming in the room." Austin had Sophia on his hip for the first time and my heart was melting. He looked at us with a smile and Sophia was resting her head on his shoulder.

"Alright, lets get that bird out of the oven. Need help Natalie?" I stepped out of the way and let the men handle it.
"Jodi, want to see my pony collection?"
"Baby, we're about to eat some dinner." Sophia gave me a glare so I quickly added, "maybe just before she leaves, you can show her if you'd like."
"I'd love that Sophia." Austin's step mom nodded at me and I smiled back at her. This woman had a big part in raising Austin, though his mom was still fluently in his life.

We got our plates set and started stuffing our face and drinking our wine. I tried to keep a level head, mainly to keep an impression but to also to make sure I take proper care of Sophia.
After pie and cookies, Sophia got changed into pajamas and sat around the living room with us. We all laughed about our jokes and stories, but one in particular made me laugh so hard my wine dripped over the edge of my glass and tears filled my eyes.
