Sophias birthday party was today and I was torn between being excited or heart broken. Her actual birthday is tomorrow, but of course her father has her. Austin and Rachel helped me decorate everything, but I bought all of it. Austin got a few presents and demanded he be in charge of the cake. It was nice to have someone to plan things with that's willing to help all the time.
"I think it's cute!" I slung my arm through Rachel's and Austin's while admiring the decoration. Sophia was off with her friends mother so we could get it all set up. The gift table was already half full from just us and I may or may not have uninformed Austin my mom was coming.

She wasn't a timid woman, she's a complete hippy. I had no doubt she'd love Austin and admire him taking on a broken woman with a child.
"So when do people start showing up?" Austin had just washed his hands after coming inside from a smoke.
"Any minute now." I wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled him close to me. "Thank you so much for everything."
"When will you stop thanking me?" He tosses his head slightly to the side with a smile on those big lips.
"When you stop being perfect." I cocked my head to the opposite side and he leaned down to kiss me.
"Enough time for sex?"
"I really wish there was," I sang as I broke away to get the ice out and the drinks out of the fridge.

People started showing up, Sophia and her friend first, then all her preschool friends came. I was an only child which is why I'm so thankful to have Rachel as my best friend - she was Sophias aunt blood or not.
"Where's my babies?" I knew that voice anywhere. I ran over to my mom with Sophia and gave her a big hug. She lived in Mississippi for the past two years so I rarely get to see her.
"God,. You're almost as tall as mommy." She kissed her forehead and she went off the play some more.

"Where is he?" She asked with a golden smile on her face. I gave her a look and shook my head.
"Mom, before you meet him I need you to relax."
"What is he a felon or something." I groaned and led her to Austin who was outside with the kids.
"Austin," he turned around with a smile and looked from me to my mom. "This is my mom, Jennifer."
"You can call me Jenn." Instead of a handshake, my mom pulled him into a hug. I knew this was going to happen.
"Nice to meet you, Jenn. You raised a pretty incredible woman." I smiled at him and almost booted my mom out of the way for a hug.
"She's got a lot of her momma in her." She winked and found Sophia who dove into her.
"She's got," Austin smirked at me, earning a shove in return. We laughed and he put his arm around my waste as I went to shoot to the kid to come in and eat.

After eating, we did games and then onto presents. When she opened her gifts, she was so sweet and thankful for every one of them. Sitting back and watching her run the show was enjoyable and I took about 200 pictures. Austin was leaning up against the counter behind me, which felt like less tension than any time I've done something like this with my ex.

My mom gave her a canvas with her own art supplies and a lot with all kinds of different crayons, paints, and markers.

Rachel got her a bunch of hair ties and different things like beads and string like we were in the 2000's again. Her favorite was the hair chalk that her father and I reasoned on, since her hair was back to blonde in a couple days after the pink incident.
"Okay Sophia, can you open mine next?"
