JAYCEE'S P.O.V
I'm so happy I got to talk with Bri. I'm actually happier that she's going to put this addiction behind her and try to step out of it. Plus, it'd be nice if she planned on coming on the road trip. I'd ask Luke of course if she could be my plus one, besides Calum.
Calum; should I tell him about Bri? Maybe not. I tell that boy everything, but since this is on the serious side, I can keep this between myself and Bri.
"Surprise!" A familiar clonking of heels walks in through the door as it shuts.
"Mom!" Jett yells and runs to hug her. I lean against the counter with a glass of water in my hands.
"Jay! How's your day been?" She asks, as I hug her.
"Good, and you, mom?"
"Great, thanks! I thought I'd come home earlier today since it's Friday. Felt like we haven't been spending time with each other recently," she smiled and removed her coat to place it on the barstool.
"There's a festival tomorrow if you guys want to go. Like a carnival; sounds like a family plan, yeah?" She suggests. Jett nods his head quickly, too quickly. I chuckle at him and he blushes. Josh shrugs and smiles; he'd probably find some of his friends there and leave us to spend time with them. Not much of a family plan then.
"Sounds good!"
"Mom!" I blurt suddenly.
"Yes sweety?"
"Calum's friend, Luke, really nice guy, invited Cal and I to go on a trip with him and his girlfriend. I can't exactly remember when, but I told him I'd ask you and dad and get back to him. It'd be for one week, in Los Angeles, so an eight hour drive. I'm not expecting an answer now because it's sudden and a big trip, but it's just a getaway before our last year of high school as couples and relaxing. Can you please think about it? Please mom?" I plead but don't ask too needily.
"You can go." What?
"What? Are - are you serious?"
She turns away and opens the fridge, removing the loaf of bread from the fridge with peanut butter, as well as grabbing a butter knife to spread it.
"Yes. I think it's a great expriment to see if you can handle this independence. I mean, you'll be going off to college in a year or so, and you know how I don't want you to leave home?" I nod in reply, folding my arms in front of my body. I never understood why I had to go to a university that was close to home so I can stick around longer. It does nothing but limit my schooling options, which isn't even a positive aspect.
"Well, if you can manage this and come home safely I can re-consider you getting a dorm at school Jay. I know you want to leave home for independence and the convenience. So, go to LA. Plus, this Luke boy sounds nice and you'll have another girl with you there so that's reassuring. I must meet them before you leave though. But, you're going to have fun, stay safe, but consider this a one time thing as a test for your future, got that missy?"
My lips purse together and I run at her with my arms open as I hug her tightly. "Mom, thank you. So so much. This means a lot to me. Thank you," my eyes are shut and I finally let go, my lips formed into a massive smile.
"You're welcome sweety. Now..." she takes a bit of her toast, "go shower and come back down to help me prepare for dinner." She winks and I run upstairs whipping my phone out. I fall on my bed, my hands above me, pressing buttons to inform Calum of the news. I can't even text because my fingers shake. I call him and he picks up after four rings.
"Jay! What's up, baby?" Every damn time he says that, especially with his accent, my stomach flutters.
"My mom said yes!"
"Hmm?" Oh Cal.
"I can go to LA! With Luke and Lex, but more importantly you." My fingers pick up a few strands of my hair and twirl them.
"That sounded really cheesy across the phone, you know?" I heard his grin across the line.
"I know, I realised after I said it. Anyways, isn't this great? I'm really excited to spend time with you."
"You don't know if I'm going though," he tests.
"Come on; you're Calum Hood."
"So?"
"So..." I sit up on my bed, "you don't care what people tell you. If you get a 'no', you fight for a yes and you fight for what you want. That's the Calum Hood I know and fell in love with," I sigh, smiling uncontrollably. He doesn't say anything though. Was that too forward?
"God, I love you. I'm so lucky to love you, Jay," he sighs.
"I love you too Cal," my smile grows wider. The affect he has on me drives me insane in the best ways possible.
"You know that I'll go wherever you are." We would definitely be awarded sappiest couple of the year.
"Do you think it'd be okay to invite Bri to come with, or is that too many people?" I ask, playing with my hair.
"You want to invite Bri? After everything?" He questioned. I guess this was my time to tell him.
"Yeah. I actually went to talk to her today, and she wants to put it behind her. She doesn't want to live like this, and it was all just mistake after mistake. She feels terrible about everything, but she said she'd try and put a stop to it, and I said I'd help in anyway possible," I sigh. Gosh, I needed a breath.
"That's really sweet of you, baby," I could hear his smile. It made my cheeks hot each time. "Speaking of my baby, would you like to spend time with me tomorrow?"
"I actually can't," I cringe. "The family is going to the festival tomorrow, and I'm going as well. Sorry Cal but maybe Sunday?" I turn my head, and notice my mom at the door, leaning against the post.
'Invite him,' she mouths, smiles, and then walks away.
"But... you can meet us there, and we can spend time with my family. Sounds like a plan?"
"You sure? I don't think your mom is quite fond of me," he giggles, as do I.
"Trust me, I think you're growing on her. She told me to bring you along."
"Oh, really? So, you didn't want me coming? You're being forced to bring me along, huh?" His smirk was evident from the phone line.
"Didn't exactly know how to tell you, Cal. Sorry, I have to shower. Talk later," I hang up, purposely and playfully, grabbing some sweatpants and trying to find a shirt. I dig through the pile of fallen clothes on the floor of my closet and find a thick, black sweater with varisty letters "S.W.Y.P" printed on the front of sweater. Calum's sweater.
I hold the soft material in my hands then make my way into the bathroom, stopping to take a look at my phone, which vibrated only a few seconds ago.
'I wanted to hear your voice longer :(' The text read.
I smiled and set it down, giggling as I stepped into the bathroom for a nice hot shower.
