"You should be proud of yourself Peggy," Steve said.
Lenna stared at the pictures she held. There was something off, why wasn't her husband in any of the pictures? The kids looked eerily familiar.
"Mmm," Peggy hummed contently. "I have lived a life. My only regret is that you didn't get to live yours. What is it," She added as Steve looked away. Lenna placed the picture back down and sat down on the opposite side of Peggy.
"For as long as I can remember, I just wanted to do what was right. I guess I'm not quite sure what that is anymore. And I thought I could throw myself back in and follow orders. Serve. It's just not the same."
Peggy laughed, "You're always so dramatic."
"Thank you!" Lenna chimed in. They both looked at her and she leaned back. "My bad."
"Look, you saved the world. We rather mucked it up."
"Knowing that you helped found SHIELD is half the reason I stay."
"Hey. The world had changed, and none of us can go back. All we can do is our best. And sometimes the best we can do is to... start o-over." A coughing fit took over her and all Lenna could do was watch on sadly.
"Peggy," Steve said after he poured her a cup of water.
"Steve!" She breathed as if she hasn't seen him in years. "You're alive! You came back! It's been so long." Lenna breathed in deeply as she started crying.
"Yes Peggy," Steve said patiently and sadly. "I have a friend I would like to introduce you to."
Lenna waved awkwardly. "Hi, I'm Lenna."
"It's wonderful meeting you Lenna... you look familiar," Peggy said, her forehead gaining wrinkles as she concentrated.
"I'm Tony Stark's daughter," Lenna told her.
"Oh, Tony!" Peggy cooed. "How is the little troublemaker?"
"Still making trouble," Steve chuckled.
"Oh he was such a sweet boy," Peggy said. "Jarvis was always worried he wouldn't toughen up. Cried at the silliest things, that boy."
"Jarvis?"
"The Stark's butler!" Peggy grinned. "He was from England as well. Oh, he was a wonderful bloke. He and Tony were very close, it affected your father very much when he died."
The room sunk into a heavy silence before Steve decided it was time he and Lenna leave.
"It was wonderful seeing you, Peg," Steve kissed her cheek.
"Wonderful meeting you Mrs. Carter."
"It was a thrill to meet Howard's granddaughter! Come back anytime!"
On the way down to his bike, Steve was silent. "I'm going to go see Sam at the DA, you wanna hitch a ride?"
"Sorry, I have to meet with Fury on something," declined Lenna. "Wish I could."
"Meet you at home, then?"
"Totally."
