Reyna Harusame 春雨 レイナ
Only a few days to Christmas.
I've only spent Christmas in Japan once. My grandmother was still alive back then. She'd make delicious gyozas and onigiri. I miss her so much.
I usually had Christmas in New York. There was this enormous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center known as the Rockefeller Christmas tree. I'd always go there with my parents and friends.
Now, I'm in Japan. But that's alright. Pearl Star Academy was holding a special Christmas event and all of us were going to help prepare for it.
The third years were responsible for decorating the school grounds. Syurina, Yana and I were placing banners, streamers and balloons in the auditorium.
"We're not even halfway done..." Yana sighed as she and Syurina placed a banner at the door.
"We deserve to take a break," I suggested. "I guess it's time to get the others to take our place."
My friends nodded. Afterwards, the three of us decided to take a walk to the kitchen where the second-years were.
"I wish we could help prepare the food," Yana admitted. "That's a lot of fun! I wanna taste it!"
"We get to eat during the party, Yana-chan," Syurina assured.
"But it would be great if we could test out everything first," Yana added. I nodded.
When the three of us got to the kitchen, Kiyoko, Sayako and the other second-years were busy preparing desserts. I watched Sayako carefully place whipped cream on the cake.
"Reyna, Yana, Syurina!" Sayako said when she saw us.
"It smells delicious!" Yana spoke in delight.
"It really does!" Syurina agreed.
Sayako smiled. "We made a few samples. Would you like to try some?"
I looked at Yana and Syurina nodding in unison. Sayako handed us a bowl full of small slices of cake.
"Delicious!" Yana exclaimed.
"It is!" I added. "I'm glad to have a bite!"
Kiyoko came to us holding a tray of gingerbread cookies. "Would you like to try these too?"
I stared at the tray of cookies in guilt. "I'd love to, but I feel greedy..."
"It's fine!" Kiyoko said in reassurance. "We're offering these to you. Besides, you three deserve a snack after all that work!"
Yana and Syurina each took a cookie. "Kiyoko-chan's right, you know," the former said before she bit her cookie.
"Oh well, thanks a lot," I said as I fed myself.
A few minutes later, Kiyoko and Sayako took a break. The five of us walked around the school.
"I miss Ayame-senpai," Kiyoko spoke. "I hope she's alright."
"Me too," Yana added. "I haven't seen her in a while..."
Sayako and Syurina nodded. Then I said, "I guess she'll be fine. She has a lot of time to rest nowadays."
Yana looked at the ceiling. "I hope Kosaka-senpai isn't feeling lonely with her."
We all stayed quiet for a while. Kosaka was always anxious whenever Akizora overdid herself. Now that the latter was on a break, Kosaka was usually all by herself.
"Hatsuko-senpai better not be! It's Christmas season!" Kiyoko said. "Christmas is the time when we all gather together."
The five of us were silent again. Suddenly, one of the school committee members was running in panic.
