Chapter 26: My Fault

My Fault

Yusei, Jack, Xina, Akiza, Mina, Trudge, Blister, the twins and the kids went back to Martha's place. The kids were crying because they were so scared and they felt guilty for leaving their home. Taka cries, "I'm so sorry, Dr. Smith. All of this.. was because of me."

Dr. Smith asks, "And Martha, she's really gone?"

Trudge responds, "I am afraid so. I was there. I could have went to help out Xina and Martha. It's all my fault."

"No it's not. It's my fault," One of the boys tells him.

"No it's not. It is my fault for trying to help Yusei," Taka tells him.

"No, it's my fault for not saying "don't go," " The other boy cried.

They all cried more and more. Their sobs and wailing was irritating Jack. Before Jack could snap at the boys, Xina beat him to it.

"Enough, boys," Xina says rather calmly. The three boys look over at Xina as their tears were still shedding. "This was not your intention," Xina tells them.

Yusei then says, "You're not the ones to blame. This is the Dark Signer's doing. They have taken Martha and my friends. We're not going to sit around and blame ourselves for what the bad guys did. But I will tell you what we are going to do. We are going to defeat the Dark Signers and get everyone back."

Everyone looks at Yusei with shocked expressions. Xina hums while looking at him.

"Wait one moment; Are you saying you can bring everyone back?" Dr. Smith questions.

"That's right," Yusei answers.

"So if you defeat the Dark Signers, everything goes back to normal?" Dr. Smith asks.

"You can really bring them back?" One of the boys ask.

"Martha and everyone else?" Taka adds.

"Yes," Yusei answers. He then kneels down to their level and looks at them in the eyes. "My friends and I are going to fix everything, I promise. Now you have to stay positive. You have to be brave and take care of everyone that's still here," Yusei tells them.

Xina looks at Yusei and she could see his sapphire eyes glimmer with determination. This made her remember something from her past.

Flashback

The Enforcers just finished dueling gangs from one of the districts. Kalin, Jack and Crow went to walk around the district to talk about their victory. Yusei and Xina decided to go on top one of the buildings and watch the sunset.
The sun was setting right behind New Domino City. They could see the unfinished bridge from their perspective. The sky was orange and was mixed with slight yellow and pink.

Xina sighs at the sight. "Isn't it beautiful?" Xina says.

Yusei responds, "Yeah. This view is amazing."

They remained silent for a few minutes, taking in the beauty of the sunset. Xina then breaks the silence, "Hey, Yusei?"

"Yeah?" Yusei responds, not removing his eyes from the sunset.

"Do you think we will ever be there?" Xina questions.

"In New Domino City?" Yusei asks to clarify.

Xina nods. "Yes. Do you think the bridge will ever finish?"

Yusei thought about it as he glimpses the unfinished bridge. He responds, "One day it will. We just have to keep believing."
