Chapter 20: Healing

Healing

Everyone waits in the other room patiently as Xina was getting treated. Rally, Tank, Nervin and Blitz were wrapped up in blankets since they got their clothes stolen when they were walking through Satellite with Yusei's duel runner; Yusei thanked them.

They all sit in silence in the room. The silence was then broken by Xina sudden screams of pain. This makes everyone heart drop, especially Yusei.

The doctor was working on Xina's wound as Xina cried out. Martha felt her eyes sting with tears as she heard Xina's scream. She tries to calm her down by gently stroking her forehead and hair. The doctor speaks, "I know it hurts, Xina, and I'm sorry. We ran out of morphine this morning..."

Xina could barely hear anything since the pain in her stomach was overwhelming her senses. It was even getting hard for her to breathe. Xina could feel Martha stroking her hair as she tries to talk, "M-Martha.."

"Don't talk, Xina. J-Just try to relax..." Martha tells her as she brought a cold, wet washcloth to her forehead, wiping away Xina's sweat.

Xina felt everything that the doctor was doing, making her scream more. Martha cringes at her screams as she asks the doctor, "Please tell me she is going to be alright?"

The doctor lowly sighs, "It appears that the large shard didn't puncture any organs. However, there are small pieces of scrap metal and glass that have made its way into the gaping wound. If I don't get all of these pieces out, then it can lead to infections and could potentially puncture her insides once the wound heals, and since we don't have any morphine, she's going to feel a great amount of pain. She also lost a lot of blood."

Martha tries to remain calm after hearing what he said. Xina continued to cry out in agony as Martha wipes Xina's face gently. Martha tells her, "Please stay strong, Xina. We're almost done."

In the waiting room, the group could hear Xina screams and cries slowly calm down as time passed by. Crow mutters, "Please be okay, sis."

"It sounds bad..." Rally comments quietly, cringing at Xina's screams.

Yusei hated this; he hated hearing Xina's screams of pain. He hated that he isn't in there by her side. He wanted to be there to comfort her through her pain, but he couldn't. Martha forbid Yusei to go inside the operating room because she didn't know how serious Xina's injury was. Yusei felt completely useless as he waited with the others, hearing her suffer.

The doctor carefully pulled out the last piece of metal out of Xina's wound. He checks to make sure that he got all the glass and metal. He stitches up the wound, causing Xina to feel that as well, however it wasn't as painful. The doctor reassures Martha, "She is going to be just fine. She needs lots of rest."

Martha exhales, relieved that her Xina was going to be okay. As the doctor was finishing up his stitching, Xina slowly fell asleep, making Martha rinse the washcloth before placing it over Xina's forehead.

In the other room, it fell silent. Nervin was looking down on the floor as he mutters, "It got quiet."

Then they all hear the door open. They look over to see the doctor and Martha. The doctor closes the door behind him quietly to make sure that he doesn't awake Xina.

They all stood from their seats and looked over at them. "How is she doing?" Crow quickly asks, eager to know.

They wait for the doctors response. The doctor takes off his paper mouth and nose mask and says, "She did lose a great amount of blood, but she'll make a full recovery. Xina will need a few days of rest. Just keep her from dueling for awhile, okay?"
