"Miguel. My cousin Miguel. He's from Mexico."

Cold rain water hits our skin as we carry a younger Derek into the animal clinic, gently placing the unconscious boy down on the metal table in front of Deaton.
"Wow." Deaton blurts out.
"Wow?" Stiles questions. "Wow as in you've seen this before and know exactly what to do kind of wow? That's the kind of wow we're hoping for."
Deaton shakes his head. "I think you might be overestimating my abilities."
"Do you think this is permanent?" Scott asks.
"I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate." Deaton replies, shining a torch into the boys eyes. "This is well beyond my experience."
"What do we do with him?" I question.
"Until he wakes up, not much." Deaton answers. "Leave him with me, he'll be safe here."
"You mean from Kate." Stiles says.
"If she's alive and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate." Deaton replies.
"Why would she do this to him?" Lydia speaks up.
"Knowing Kate, it's probably for a reason that won't be any good for anyone but her." Deaton answers. "You guys should go home and get some sleep."
"Someone should stay with you." Scott suggests.
Lydia looks down at her hand gripped in Derek's. "I'll stay. My grades are fine despite missing a few classes."
"Text us if anything happens." I tell her.

The next day, the three of us leave school early to return to the animal clinic where we meet Lydia and an injured Deaton.
"I don't think he's just younger in body." Deaton tells us. "I think he's younger in his mind too."
"He didn't recognise either of us and looked like he was scared out of his mind." Lydia adds.
"A wolf goes back to its den, but Derek lives in a loft." Scott explains.
"Not when he was a teenager." I remind. "He lived in the Hale house."
"He wouldn't remember the fire, it wouldn't have happened yet." Deaton adds.
"We'll go to the house then." Scott decides.
"Say you do manage to find him, what are you going to say? That his whole family is dead?" Lydia questions.
