"hey mama, i have a question."
"what is it? i swear jade if you broke one more phone."
"no no. i was wondering if this weekend i can go to California with Christina? it's for her skincare line and it'll give me a chance to look at colleges." that's what is going to make her let me go, college. i haven't really been looking because school started only around two months ago so i just haven't gotten into looking.

"hm. let me think." she walks away so I wait in the kitchen while eating breakfast. she comes back in just as I finish eating. "hm. sure." she's smirking at me? what did she just do?

"zach! can you come here quickly?" i was in the middle of getting ready for school when my mom calls me downstairs. "yeah!"
"ZACH I SAID COME DOWN HERE!" i roll my eyes and walk faster down the stairs.
"what's up?"
"this weekend you're going to California."
"what?"
"it'll be a great opportunity to look at colleges. you're going with Christina and Jade. it's a secret though so hush up about it."

"wait what? like seriously."
"yes now seriously hush up."
she then shoos me back upstairs so i could finish getting ready for school. huh.

i get to school early so i can catch jade at her locker, I'm not going to tell her about California of course. "jade!" she turns around and smiles at me. "hi zach."
"i didn't think you would actually talk to me in school."
"why? we're friends aren't we?"

tyler walks by us and glares at me as he does.
"walk me to class?"
"yeah of course." she starts walking but i immediately stop her, "let me carry your bag." she laughs but takes it off and hands it to me. i hold it by the straps and we begin walking again. this is what we used to do when we were dating.

we walk in silence until we get to her first period class. "thanks zach." she takes her bag from me and puts it over her shoulders. "anytime jade." she walks inside the classroom and i walk away to get to my class, hopefully in time.
