"... and that is how I pulled off the Great Gulon Incident," Keefe said as everyone started clapping. Sophie walked into her room, filled with Fitz, Biana, Tam, Linh, Dex, Ro, Sandor, and Keefe.
"I know we planned to meet here, but it is seriously crowded in here," Sophie complained. A chorus of groans echoed throughout the room. Ever since Fitz and Sophie broke up, things had been awkward between everyone. So, it was nice to see Keefe trying to cheer everyone up.
"Let's move to the living room?" Dex suggested.
"Actually, Edaline is using it. Something about an explosion going off, releasing a bunch of feathers everywhere?" All eyes turned to Keefe. He muttered under his breath.
"I'm sorry ok? I thought Ro was going to set it off," Keefe explained.
"Are you still doing that horrible prank war?" Biana groaned. Keefe flashed his famous smirk. Again, a chorus of groans went around the room.
"Since Foster's house is a bust, what if we go down to the beach? Keefe suggested.
"Why would you want to go to a beach?" Tam asked with a confused look.
"I need to work on my tan! This doesn't come naturally you know,"
"But it's almost night time?,"
"I know," Keefe smirked. Sophie sighed, wondering why she ever became friends with him.
"Fitz and I won't be able to make it. We have some... training to do." Biana said with a shy smile. Sophie realized what she meant, and Fitz gave her an apoplectic glance.
"Sounds like someone's afraid of you,"
Sophie jumped a little before looking around and seeing Tam's shadows near her.
"What?" Sophie transmitted.
"Ever since you two broke up, he's been avoiding you."
"He has not!"
"Really? When's the last time you talked to him?"
"Today!"
"Alone?"
"No.." She glared at Tam.
"Alright! So that leaves the twins, Dex, Sandor, Ro, Foster, and the life of the party," Keefe continued.
"Actually, we can't make it either. Mr. Forkle asked Tam to work on his Shadowflux control, and he can't be alone." Linh said.
"I can't make it either, I have to work on a new gadget that'll hopefully lead to opening that cache," Dex said with a sheepish expression on his face. Sophie groaned out of frustration.
"We came here for a meeting, and now everyone suddenly has to go?" Sophie asked, trying to remain calm.
"Hey! I'm still here!" Keefe whined. Sophie rolled her eyes.
"To be fair, this meeting was supposed to happen an hour ago," Dex said. Sophie was about to argue back, but all her friends started to get up to leave.
"Looks like it's just you and me, Foster!" Keefe said with a sly grin on his face. Sophie put her head in her hands. Breaking up with Fitz really broke the trust between not only them but everyone else. She needed to fix this before it got any worse.
"Hold on Keefe, I need to talk to Fitz," Sophie said. Keefe looked a bit hurt, but seconds later had a smirk on his face and told her to not get into too much trouble. Sophie ran downstairs just in time to ask Fitz to wait. Biana went ahead and told him to meet her at home. Other than Keefe being upstairs, they were alone.
"Listen- " Fitz started.
"No, let me first. What happened between us?" Sophie asked, her eyebrows burrowing in confusion. Fitz stayed silent, making Sophie uncomfortable. She was about to reach for a loose eyelash when he spoke up.
"I'm in love with you, Sophie. I don't think we should have broken up." Fitz admitted. His face turned red from embarrassment, yet his eyes were filled with confidence.
"Fitz... I don't know how to say this. I don't feel the same way anymore." Sophie said. Fitz's head snapped up.
He narrowed his eyes and said, "This is about Keefe, isn't it." Sophie was a bit startled by the accusation.
"What?" was all she could muster. Fitz continued to glare at her.
She cleared her throat and said, "Fitz, this isn't about Keefe. This is about me losing those types of feelings for you." She stuttered, hoping Fitz wouldn't get upset. Fitz let out a small laugh.
"Keep telling yourself that," Fitz scolded. He turned to walk away when Sophie grabbed his arm.
"Ok fine. I'll tell you what happened, please don't go yet," She pleaded. Fitz gave her a suspicious glance before turning back around and folding his arms. He gestured for her to start talking.
"I'm unmatchable," Sophie whispered, feeling a pit of shame and anger twist in her stomach. Fitz froze, making her regret ever saying anything.
After a few minutes, Fitz spoke and said, "How long have you know?" She had a feeling he'd ask that question. She then proceeds to tell him about how, after the alicorn babies were born, she decided to go get registered. 11 months ago. The pit in Sophie's stomach grew when Fitz began to shake his head.
"Why? WHY WOULD YOU KEEP THIS A SECRET FROM ME??" He shouted. Sophie shrank under his glare. He continued shouting insults, each one more hurtful than the one before.
"IT'S NO WONDER WHY GRADY AND EDALINE TRIED TO GET RID OF YOU AND MAKE US ADOPT YOU!" He screamed.
No. He could not bring her parents into this. Her vision was bordered with red. Fitz continued shouting insults, making her angrier. She couldn't see anything but red. Her mind was a web full of anger and betrayal. She heard a faint voice calling out her name.
"Foster, it's ok. He didn't mean that. Breathe."
But it was too late. The anger shot out of her, tossing Fitz and Keefe to the ground. Keefe jumped up, less affected because he was further away. He grabbed her hand and sent waves of a calming breeze into her mind. She opened her eyes and found herself on the ground leaning against Keefe, who was still sending her a quiet breeze.
"Are you ok? What happened?" Keefe asked, with a worried expression on his face. But before she could answer his questions, she saw Fitz lying on the ground, unconscious.
