Questions flooded Sophie's mind as she tried to think of a way to get out of this situation.

She didn't want the Neverseen to hear her plan, so she transmitted to Keefe, "I'm going to inflict on them now. Run while you have a chance!"

She looked up to see his response when she saw him struggling in Brant's and Ruy's hold. Not-so-nice words floated through her mind as she tried to calm herself down. She ran and hid behind a big bush.

Sophie knew the only reason she wasn't hurt or trapped in a force field was that they wanted her to fight. They wanted her to think she had a chance. They wanted her to keep playing their games.

"I don't know what to do," Sophie transmitted to Keefe.

"Inflict," He said, his mental voice sounding tired.

"What?? No! You are too close, I'll hurt you,"

"Sophie, please," She looked at him and saw his pleading eyes. She looked around and couldn't see Lady Gisela, Vespera, or Jolie. Shadows drug past her, leading her eyes to a tree. The shadows surrounded the tree as if consuming it.

Sophie looked closer and realized Jolie was in the middle of the shadows as if collecting them.

"She is a conjurer...  and a shade?" Sophie thought to herself.

"Jolie's a shade, and I think she is going to try and hit us with shadowflux," She transmitted.

"I know you are scared, but you have to inflict. If you don't, we may not make it out of here,"

"I can't hurt you,"

"I'll be fine. Worst case scenario, we'll have Elwin patch me up,"

"No. Worst case scenario, we die." She said. She saw the shadows getting darker and more clustered.

That's when she made up her mind. "I'm going to inflict, but just a tiny bit. Just enough to make Brant and Ruy release you. Then please run. Far away. I'll inflict with everything I have and hopefully will knock them out,"

"I'm not going to leave you."

"We'll figure that out later. I need to inflict now, or Jolie will hurt you," Sophie transmitted as she got up from the bush she was hiding behind. She ran over to where Keefe was and placed herself a few yards away from him.

Sophie took a deep breath and starting reminding herself of all the horrible things the Neverseen had done. She thought about the time when they kidnapped her human parents and tortured them. She remembered all the innocent people they killed. She thought about all the times her friends got hurt because of her.

Sophie was so focused, she didn't notice herself start to slip away. She had gone too far. Her vision was blurred with dark red. She was about to try and calm herself down when Lady Gisela appeared next to her and made a deep gash in her arm.

The surprise of the attack made the anger and hate she had collected burst out of her.

"No!" She shouted as she felt something shoot from her hand. It felt like a burst of energy ahd just left her. She fell to the ground as tears fell from her eyes. She looked over just enough to see Vespera lying on the ground, lifeless. She didn't want to think about the state Keefe was in, but that's all she could think of.

"Are you okay?" A voice asked her. But not just any voice. His voice. She looked up and saw Keefe looking around in wonder. He was in a force field and didn't seem affected.

"Why did Ruy save you?" Sophie asked, ignoring his question.

"He didn't. You did." Keefe said with a grin.

"But I'm not a psioni-" She started saying when she felt a new energy in her hand. She shot out her hand and acted like she was throwing the energy out. A bubble encased Tam and Biana, who had just walked up.

"Whoa," Biana and Tam said at the same time. Tam gathered shadows near him and Biana and broke down the force field. He did the same for Keefe.

"So... you are a psionipath?" Biana asked.

"I guess. Mr. Forkle has some explaining to do," Sophie said while scanning the land around them. Brant, Ruy, Vespera, and Lady Gisela lay scattered around, all looking lifeless.

"Wait. Where's Jolie?" Sophie asked panicking.

"Jolie?? She's alive?!?" Biana asked with wide eyes.

"Oh, yeah. Sorry."

"Is there anything else?"

"She's a shade."

Tam's head snapped up. He said, "Wait, Jolie, who's supposed to be dead, is a shade?"

"Yup,"

----------

Sophie and her friends called Alden and Elwin for help. They took everyone they had knocked out and turned them into the council. Mr. Forkle was just as shocked as Sophie and her friends when she told them she was a psionipath. Grady and Edaline took the news about Jolie hard but promised that they would be fine.

Sophie, through all this, was overjoyed that they had finally stopped the majority of the Neverseen's leaders. Yes, others were out there. But she had a feeling they would have lots of time to prepare for them and stop the Neverseen once and for all.

She believed that until later that night, she found a note lying on her pillow. It read:

This isn't over.
