They just finished another game of Base Quest (the girls won), and Sophie went with Linh to go get a snack.

"So, how'd it go?" Sophie asked.

"It went okay," Linh said, looking away, smiling. "What about you?"

"It was fine," Sophie said, turning red.

"Hey! How are you guys doing?" Alden asked.

"Good," they responded.

"Are you staying for dinner? It'll be ready soon!"

"Wait, what?" Sophie gasped. "Please tell me you eat dinner at 2pm!" Alden gave her a weird look and walked away.

"What time is it?" Sophie asked Linh.

"It's almost 4 o'clock. Why?" Linh responded.

Sophie paled, and said, "I need to find Keefe," To her luck, Keefe was walking inside.

"Keefe! We need to go! It's almost 4!" Sophie shouted out of panic.

"Whoa, why are you so stressed out? We have enough time, it'll be okay." Keefe assured.

"What do you have to do?" Linh asked.

"Mr. Forkle gave Foster and me an assignment, and we promised we'd be done with it at 5," Keefe said.

"C'mon, we need to go!" Sophie said while dragging Keefe to a leapmaster. When they leaped home, Edaline greeted them.

"Hey! Did you have fun?"

"Yeah! We need to go work on Mr. Forkle's assignment, so can we talk later?" Sophie asked.

Edaline laughed and said, "Of course,"

Sophie dragged Keefe into her room and grabbed her notebook and pencil. That's when she realized they were alone. She got nervous, unsure of what was the situation was between them.

"You okay?" Keefe asked.

"Yeah! Of course, why wouldn't I be?" Sophie sputtered, hoping he wouldn't notice her lie.

Keefe sighed and said, "Please tell me what's wrong."

Sophie looked at him and said, "I'm just worried we won't think of anything in time."

"Oh,"

"And also that thing that happened earlier today when we were playing Base Quest," She said quickly, looking away. Keefe didn't say anything, so Sophie said more.

"I keep wondering if I was just nervous about the game, and there was no spark. Like, if I made it up." She whispered. Keefe still said nothing. Sophie turned towards him to see what was wrong when she realized he had moved closer to her.

"Do you want to see if there's a spark?" He finally said.

"Wait for me to calm down," Sophie paused, then said, "And then... yes." Keefe carefully took her hand and sent her those all too familiar calming breezes. He then gently pulled her closer and lightly pressed his lips against hers. She didn't feel a spark. She felt something more. Something powerful. She pulled away, scared of that their friendship was changing.

"Are you okay?" Keefe asked with a worried look on his face.

She looked at him and said, "I'm scared. But excited. Frightened. Exuberant."

"What are you scared of?" He asked gently.

"I'm scared that whatever this is, will change our friendship, and I'll lose you."

"That will never happen. If things start getting weird and awkward, we will talk about it until we are better. You don't need to be afraid. Whatever happens, we are in this together."

"Thanks," Sophie said, feeling relieved.

"One more question. Did you feel a spark?" She asked.

"Well, I don't know if I'd call it a spark. I'd describe it more of a burst of electricity,"

"And is that good?"

"No. It's great," Keefe said grinning.

After a minute of silence, Sophie cleared her throat and said, "We should probably start working."

"Whatever you want, Foster,"

Sophie smiled and got then got to work.
