"Yea, Kirishima and I actually met here""Wow really?"
"Back when it was owned by somebody else, he worked here. I came in one day after a run and saw him. We became friends and eventually fell in love. He introduced me to his friends Kaminari, Sero, Ashido, and Jirou. And now they're my best friends too"
"Aww, that's such a cute love story" Midoriya gushed.
My dumbass woke up this morning to my work alarm and decided to get a muffin before work. I could've gone anywhere else. But I just had to come to this shitty cafe in the middle of nowhere. So here I sat, on a little barstool across the counter from the stupid bakery boy, enjoying his freshly baked blueberry muffins and a cup of black coffee.
"Shut the hell up, Deku," I said, taking a sip of my coffee
"Deku?" he asked, giggling. "My names Midoriya"
"Not anymore it's not" I retorted. "Hope you like the nickname. Its a lot easier to say anyway"
"Fine," he said. "Can I give you a nickname?"
"Fuck no"
"Ugh. Whatever Kacchan." He grinned
"KACCHAN?! WHAT IS THAT IMPLYING? YOUR NICKNAME ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING!! USELESS DEKU WORKING AT A USELESS CAFE ON A SMALL ROAD NO ONE DRIVES DOWN."
"Oh, your name means something alright. And you legit just proved my point. Kacchan. It means loud and explosive. Like your attitude."
"What the fuck?" I muttered.
Deku giggled. "I'm sorry. I won't call you that if you don't want me to"
"I don't care what you call me" I growled.
"Heh. What time do you have to leave for work?"
"8" I replied, checking the time. It was 7:30. I still had time.
"Oh ok," Deku replied. "Do you want more muffins?" I shook my head. I was pretty full. "Well if you do, just tell me" He giggled again. It made me smile. Wait..... WHAT. No, don't fucking smile at him you idiot. There's no reason that you should be smiling at him. But.... he was so cute. I found myself arguing with myself. My brain wanted one thing but my body felt another. I couldn't control the grin on my face. I probably looked like an idiot right now. Suddenly, I was able to control my body again, immediately wiping the stupid smile off my face.
"You should come to the cafe after work," Deku said. "Or, I close up for the day at 7 pm so if you want, give me your address and I'll stop by on my way home."
"Fuck no," I hissed at him. No way I'm telling this green-haired loser where I live
"I'll bring muffins" he coaxed in a sing-song voice.
I sighed. "Fuck" He really knew how to get to me, didn't he? "Fine. What the fuck ever."
"Yay!" he cheered. "Here write your address on this napkin," he said, sliding a napkin and a pen from his apron towards me. I did as he said and then gave the serviette back. He took it happily, stuffing it and the pen back into his apron pocket. "I'll see you at 7 then" he beamed.
I nodded, standing from my chair and gathering my things, making sure to grab my wallet this time. "Yep" I replied giving him a small wave before exiting the boulangerie.
Work went by really slowly. I worked for an animation company. Right now we were producing a show about this superhero named All Might. He was the best hero in the world, obviously, because that's how every story goes. The main character is always the best and always wins. But you know how it goes. Even though the main character is always the best, he's never the fan-favorite. The fan-favorite is always a side character, the antagonist, or the main character's friend. Right now we were working on giving another hero, Eraserhead, more screen time in the next episode, as he was the fan favorite as of right now. And the boss of my company always insists that we listen to the fans.
I didn't do anything exciting. No drawing or animating or editing or none of that fun stuff. I worked on lighting, making sure that shadows and light glares are in the right place. I didn't know why it mattered, as it was a fucking animation, but it was my job and it earned me money if I did it well, so I had no choice.
I worked through the day slowly, watching and rewatching the newest episode a million times, paying attention to each detail. By the end of the day, my boss still wasn't satisfied with the shadowing techniques, which made me groan, knowing I would have to be watching it again tomorrow once it's fixed.
I headed home quickly, actually kind of excited for Deku to come over. Only because he's bringing muffins obviously. No other reason.
I got home from work at 6:45 and started cleaning up the living room and decided on making dinner too. I didn't know what he liked to eat so I settled on katsudon. I was actually a really good cook suprisingly. My mom used to force cooking lessons on to me and I've lived alone ever since I moved out of her house, so preparing food came natural to me.
At 7, I started to move faster, seeing as I didn't know how long it takes for him to reach here. The bakery wasn't too far away but he said he didn't have a car, which means he's probably taking a bus. Buses are slower than cars plus they have to make stops, I'm estimating hell be here in about 10 minutes.
Sure enough, promptly at 7:12, a knock sounded from the front door. I opened it to see the bakery boy standing in the hallway, a bag and a steaming cup in his hands.
Deku gave me a grin and held out the items. I took them, taking a sip from the cup. Black coffee. "Here you go. Something smells good. Are you cooking?"
I nodded. "Pork cutlet bowl," I said, allowing him to step inside the apartment. I led him to the couch and set my muffins on the tatami table. I filled a bowl up with the katsudon and grabbed a pair of chopsticks, bringing the food to Deku.
"I love katsudon!" he exclaimed, taking a mouthful. "It's my favorite food, actually" He snarfed it down quickly, unfortunately refusing seconds. I didn't eat as I wasn't that hungry, so instead I settled on sitting on the couch next to him, sipping my coffee.
While he finished, I received a text from someone.
Eijriou: hey kitten. are you busy saturday?
Kitten: no why?
Eijirou: cuz i took off work for a surprise :)
Kitten: aw come on. can you not? i hate surprises
Eijirou: alright fine. ill give you a hint as to what it is and ill let you ponder ok? first im bringing you to dinner and then we're going somewhere else, somewhere important to us. then i have something for you.
Kitten: come on babe. what the hell is it?
Eijirou: you'll see!! alright, i have t get back to work before my boss catches me on my phone. i love you. have a good night hun
Kitten: ugh gn...
"Whos that?" Deku asked me. Ugh. He was so fucking nosy.
"My boyfriend" I replied.
"Oh, what'd he have to say?"
"Can you mind your damn business for once?" I entreated. "Jesus fucking Christ. You're always up my ass about every silly thing"
"I'm sorry" Deku whispered and I found myself feeling genuinely bad. He looked down at his phone. "My friend Tsu is here to pick me up. I'll see you later I guess?"
I nodded and watched him walk to the door and open it. That's when I felt my body moving on its own again, opening my mouth to say something. "Tomorrow," I said. Fuck. What? "I'll come by tomorrow. Muffins" FUCK!! I swear to god. I was going to cut out my vocals cords with nothing but my own bare hands and a pair of meat scissors if this shit happened one more time.
Deku grinned from ear to ear, showing off his bright white teeth. "Ok!" exclaimed stepping out into the hallway.
"Oh and Deku!"
"Hmm?"
"Lay off the whitening strips. You smile too much and it burns my eyes."
I heard Deku let out a little giggle before he closed the door, his footsteps fading away down the corridor.
