Mutation

Reality started opening. I woke up but I didn't open my eyes. I didn't feel Keith's lap under my head. I opened my eyes. Everything was blurry and fuzzy. Although I could not see properly, I was able to tell I was on a pile of dead grass. It smelled like it. I saw a hand laying down next to me. I assumed it was Keith's since he was the last one next to me. Half asleep, I moved my head, so it would lay down on his hand.
"Lance?" I heard s voice.
"What? I taught you like my curly hair." I laughed half asleep.
"Lance..."
I looked up. It was not Keith.
"PIDGE!" I jumped up. She stood up and sat down on her knees. It didn't look like she just woke up. "Who were you expecting?" Pidge asked. She didn't laugh with me. "I taught you were sleeping in the shuttle," I said, hoping she would forget about her question. I didn't want to tell her I was bonding with Keith. She would probably shame me for forgetting our bonding moment when he saved me back when we served Voltron.
"I couldn't sleep...You know... Voices won't let me sleep. So I went out here to look up at the stars."
I did not understand what she meant by "The voices." I looked around. "Where's Keith?" I asked. "He's preparing for the mission," Pidge answered.
Out of nowhere, she grabbed my arm. She observed my hand. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Your ice powers. Does it hurt when you use them? Is the ice just in your blood? Elaborate." I didn't know how to answer. I myself didn't know how to answer. I tried to change the topic. "How's your leg?" I asked, staring at her leg. "I know you're trying to change to the topic, but to answer your question, it's fine." She said, hesitating. It was obvious she was trying to hide something. "Your lying," I smirked. "You don't know that." Pidge frowned. "Yes, I do. That's how you spoke when you tried to hide your identity back in Garrisons." I said. She looked at me. "I can't believe you remembered." She laughed. "So what's wrong?" I asked. Pidge took off her boot, revealing her leg. It had a green complexion and had burned. It was as if it was growing scales in its back.
"Pidge-"
"I know. I'm assuming that aura must have mutated it, like how it must have mutated Barb." She explained.
"No, Barb is an alien."
"Yes, but she must have been exposed to the aura either way."
"So you're telling me that the aura can mutate its Host?" I asked.
"Yes."
"What about your leg?" Concerned, I asked.
"As Coran said, it's too much power for a human. But it doesn't mean that nothing is going to happen. I don't know what's going to happen Lance. But maybe I can control the aura inside me." She explained.
It just came to me. If Keith and I have powers linked to our lion, shouldn't Pidge and Hunk have powers too? I then realized what Pidge meant by "the voices." She was afraid of what she didn't know. I didn't want to ask her about her powers linked to her lion. I didn't want to choke her with these questions. She whispered. "Don't tell Keith about my leg. I don't want him to worry too much." She asked. I pulled my hand and gestured zipping my mouth closed. We laughed.

Pidge slowly placed the boot back on and stood up. "Where are you going?" I asked smiling, looking at her. "We're leaving for our mission." She said. "Now?" I asked. "How long have I been asleep?" I asked. "For forever now." She giggled. She reached her hand down, helping me stand up. He bowed. "After you," I said in a British accent, one hand behind me and the other heading into the direction to the lions. She laughed as she walked into the lions. It's nice to get Pidge to talk to me again. She seemed really uncomfortable before. Hunk walked up behind me. I turned around in shock. "How long have you been listening to our conversation?" I asked, turning red. "Enough to know you're over Allura!" He said laughing. He hugged me in joy that I was finally moving on. "I'm so glad your over Allura!" He whispered excitedly. I was bothered. Maybe because I was just glad he didn't hear about Pidge's leg mutation. Maybe because I was glad that I was moving on. "Okay big guy, let's go find Allura's family," I said after I pushed Hunk away, walking towards my lion.

Before I could step inside, Allura walked in front of me, t-posing. I chuckled. "You don't have to t-pose for me to know your much more superior." I laughed. "Oh, I know. I want to come with you," Allura demanded. "But Keith said should stay here at the base." Hunk pointed out. Hunk sounded like he didn't want to go off plan. He sounded worried. "Forget what Keith said. I'm coming with you. I'll follow you from the shuttle." She said. "Fine," I said. Through the years I spent with Allura, I had learned to just go with what she says. She could be demanding, heh.

I watched the red and green lions stand up as their eyes glowed. They stood up and flew into infinity. "I hope they find the black lion," Allura said. It was time we'd go to our lions. I sat in blue and prayed. "You ready Lance?" Hunk asked through the communicator. "As long as you are." I smiled. Hunk didn't answer. "Hunk you are okay right?" I asked. "It's just... What if we mess up. What if we don't find Allura's family? What if we don't make it back to Earth?" Hunk asked nervously. I've never seen Hunk so worried. "Hunk, sometimes you have to try. The future is always uncertain if you don't do anything in years your present, then there is no future."I said. I'll be honest, I just read that somewhere on Instagram. "I trust you, Lance." Hunk said in relief. The lions and the shuttle started to leave the ground. It was time we'd fly into infinity.
