Cassie couldn't decide whether she liked the red earrings or the gold earrings. Of course, this decision would lead to whether she decided the wear the black heals with the red flower accents, or the bejewelled gold. It would even influence her choice of bag.

It was a big decision.

She frowned at herself in the mirror, holding one earring up to each ear attempting to decide.

"You've been staring at that mirror for a long time," her stepmother remarked from in the door.

Cassie turned to Diane, hands till held up to ears with the jewellery attached. "Ok, but this is a big decision. Its Alice's birthday and that girl posts her entire life to social media, and I know she is going to make me take photos and then she is going to put them on her Instagram. You know how many followers she has, it's like freaking fifty thousand, so therefore what I wear will be viewed countless times."

"Your basically famous," Diane gasped.

Cassie rolled her eyes. "It's not that I care per say, it's just Alice will. You know how bad her anxiety can get over these things, so if she thinks I don't look perfect then she'll have a meltdown. We can't have that happening on her birthday, can we?"

"I'd go red, a little pop of colour to the black dress."

"Hmm," Cassie said to herself before shrugging and putting the red earrings in. "I thought you and dad were off to the movies anyway?" She said this as she hopped around slipping the shoes on both feet before trotting over to Diane.

Diane laughed as Cassie held up a leg for help with the complicated buckle of this ridiculous shoe. "We were, but your father is just having a heated debate with your uncle over who is going to win that game of . . . I mean I wanna say basketball?" she shrugged as she let go of Cassie's foot, and turned to the other one. "We will be leaving as soon as he concedes defeat, and we will probably have to have dinner afterwards now."

"Sounds fun," Cassie said with a little chuckle at her father's antics. Will both of her shoes securely buttoned up she turned and grabbed her purse, going for the small black clutch on this occasion. She turned and faced Diane, brandishing her hands out dramatically. "Do I look fabulous?"

Diane nodded, "Most certainly."

Cassie flashed a smile as she grabbed her phone and wallet before heading out the door of her room. "I'll be staying at Alice's house so don't wait up." She gave Diane a one-armed hug, before delicately stepping downstairs. Her father was indeed on the phone, using excessive hand movements as he exclaimed loudly on the phone. She gave him a little wave before stepping outside.

Of course, Alice had gone full out for her 21st party. There was a goddamn limo sitting in front of Cassie's house. She stared at it for a few seconds with raised eyebrows at her friend's dramatic antics, before the door popped open and Alice waved her in.

Inside was packed full of a multitude of people Cassie only vaguely knew, with quite a view already indulging significantly in the champagne. Music blared so loudly that Cassie's head felt like it thumped along with it.

"Isn't this awesome," Alice screeched, jumping up and down as much as she possibly could in the small space.

Cassie laughed and nodded along, before her friend grabbed her and took a photo.

Zara was nervous. She sat on-top of the car as it drove along, gnawing on her nails. It was Cassie's fault she developed that annoying habit she realised. The girl was always gnawing them to the stubs and Zara had copied.
