CHAPTER 33 - Indefinite Leave

LUMIPAS ang araw at tumigil ang mild bleeding ko. Victoria gave me the go signal to travel to our province. Umaasa pa din ako na tatawagan ako ni Luke, pero mukhang nakalimutan na niya talaga ako.

"Sabi ng secretary ko, naka-indefinite leave ka daw? Bakit kailangan na sa secretary ko pa malalaman ito? You can just tell it to me in person," sabi ni daddy na biglang pumasok sa opisina ko.

"Good morning to you too, dad. Tulad nga ng sinabi ko sa email, gusto ko muna magpahinga."

"Chloe, I am not against your indefinite leave. My point is, bakit hindi mo ko kinausap tungkol dito? May dapat ba ko malaman? Are you hiding something from me?"

"Wala naman po. Gusto ko lang talaga magbakasyon sa probinsya."

Dad looked at me as if may alam na siya kung bakit ako magbabakasyon. Natatakot ako na sabihin sa kanya na buntis ako dahil baka ipakasal niya ko kay Luke. Ayokong gawin 'yon sa taong nagligtas ng buhay ko.

"Do you think I will not notice your morning sickness?" he asked in a low, but dangerous voice.

"Dad---"

"I am listening, Chloe. You know I have a way to find the father of your child," he said with a little patience.

Hindi ko na napigilan ang umiyak sa harapan ng daddy ko. Masyadong masakit ang mga nangyari sa akin mula sa pagtatangka ni Janice sa buhay ko hanggang sa pagkamatay niya. Ngayon naman, dinadala ko ang anak ng isang lalake na nakatakda na ikasal sa iba.

"I am carrying Luke's child," sabi ko pagkatapos ng mahabang sandali.

"Luke Markus Torres? I asked that man to take care of you, not to touch you! How can he do this to me? I trusted him, like my own son!" dad shouted as he clenched his fist.

"Dad, wala siyang kasalanan, you have to believe me. I seduced him. Ako ang may gusto nito!"

"You seduced him? Are you out of your mind?"

"Dad, huwag mo sisihin si Luke---"

"I will deal with him myself. He should take responsibility for your pregnancy!" sigaw ng daddy ko na aktong lalabas ng office ko.

"Dad, wait! Luke is in love with someone else and I can't force him to marry me because of this child. Just let me deal with this. Please, dad. I am begging you."

"Don't you dare terminate your pregnancy or I will disown you!"

"Hindi ko magagawa 'yon, daddy. I love Luke so much and his baby is all I have left of him. Please, ako na bahala kay Luke."

"Do whatever you want, take as much rest as you need, but promise me that you will take care of yourself."

"Doon po muna ko sa probinsya kasama si Aunt Lisa. Dad, pwede po ba ko humingi ng favor?"

"Anong pabor?"

"Please don't tell Luke about my pregnancy. Ang alam ko, nagkabalikan na sila ng ex-fiancee niya na taga Austria. Ayoko naman na pakasalan niya lang ako dahil sa pinagbubuntis ko. I hope you understand."

"If that is what my baby wants, I will respect it."
