Keith's POV:
Okay, for the passed Varga and a half, Allura had us dodging the castle's defenses trying to get us to form Voltron. Let me just say, it wasn't pretty. Now, Coran is having us all sit down in a circle in the middle of the training room.
"What are we doing Coran? I thought we were supposed to be forming Voltron?" Lance asked, reluctantly sitting next to me.
"Yes, well I've noticed you all don't seem like the team Voltron needs. So, we will be putting on these head caps to helps you bond with each other." he replied, passing around headpieces that looked like three bent pieces of metal.
"What do they do?" Shiro asked, putting it on. The cap started glowing turquoise.
"These hats let you see into your memories, as well as the memories of your fellow paladins, essentially bonding you all." Everyone fell silent, and I immediately felt panicked. I looked at Shiro in horror, and he was giving me the same look.
"Um, Coran, I think I speak for all of us when I say... hell no!" I yelled, and everyone nodded. Shiro didn't even bother telling me language.
"Look, I understand that there are a few things you may want to keep private, but you are a team. You must trust in each other with even your most darkest secrets to be a well built team." Everyone was silent, unmoving.
"Coran, not all of us are ready to put that kind of trust to the test. Not to mention, the things we may see may change our perspectives of each other. Whether that is negative or not, some of us may not want to take that chance. So, please. Let us try something else." Lance said, seriousness in his eye, and I couldn't help wondering what he was hiding.
"*sigh* Alright, if you all feel so strongly about it, I guess we can try something else for now." Coran said, and everyone visibly relaxed.
Lance's POV:
I swear, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. As much as I wanted to see everyone's memories, I didn't want them to see mine. I couldn't. Now we're all in a circle, facing away from each other with only our shields. Coran is in the display box or whatever, waiting for someone to ask- "What are we doing with just a shield?" -that.
"I will be setting training drones to try to stun each of you. Your goal is to protect your fellow paladins for as long as possible." "Sounds easy enough." "Ready. Set. Go!"
Several drones appear and immediately start shooting. Pidge was first to go, then Hunk did some flip and fell. Keith, Shiro and I back up into each other, protecting each other. Before I could stop it, a shot flew passed my head and hit Shiro in the shoulder. "Quiznack!" I mumbled, backing into Keith.
"Watch out!" Keith yelled, pulling us to the ground. The floor in front of me sparked with the shot that was aimed at me, and I smirked.
"Nice."
Time passed, shots fired faster and more frequently, and we protected each other with ease.
Shiro's POV:
"Wow. I've never seen someone match Keith to anything before. Was... was Lance holding back this whole time?" I looked to Pidge and Hunk, and they shrugged.
"I've noticed that Lance was holding back forever ago, but he'd deny it. So we didn't push. I never did understand it." Pidge replied, and Hunk nodded.
"I'm just glad he's starting to show his true talents. I guess he trusts us enough to show off a bit." Hunk added.
"Plus, it also helps that we're in a deadly situation up here, forcing him to show off." Pidge pointed out. I turned back to watch the pair of paladins.
"Still, I can't even keep up with Keith when he's giving his all. I'm impressed." I said aloud in awe.
"I'm proud of their bond. The previous paladins, there were two who matched each other perfectly as well. They were the red and black paladins. Honestly, I'm a little shocked that the red and blue are matched. They are supposed to be total opposites." Coran informed, and I smirked.
"Clearly, they're not."
Lance's Pov:
"Look out!" I yelled, jumping in front of a shot that was headed for Keith. By doing so, I missed the shot that was coming from the other side, and we were both hit. The floor opened beneath us and we fell through. When I sat up, I was hovering over Keith, my legs between his, my face only a few inches from his. He was propped up on his elbows, and he was looking at me with wide eyes.
"Uh oh."
