Chapter 20: Secrets We're Trusted With (Part 1)

Thought I'd update early for being so late. Here you go.

Keith's POV:

As we were walking, I was trying to find the best way to explain. Hey, Lance. So you know how I have that sword? Yeah, it's because my grandmother is Haggar, who became royalty because she's married to our enemy! So yeah, swallow that! Yeah, no. I don't think so.

"Keith." I'm pulled from my thoughts by Lance. He stopped us, pulled me to the ground with him, and laid us on our backs to stare at the stars. "Keith, if you're that worried about it, just know..." he paused, turning to look at me, I turned and looked him in the eye. "...like you said you would do for me, I won't look at you any differently than I do now. I promise." His voice was soft and sincere, and I smiled.

"Damn it, now I have to tell you." I said playfully, and we laughed for a moment. His eyes were sparkling as they reflected the stars.

"Good, because I'm sure it will come out eventually." he said, keeping his breathtaking smile facing me. I had to look away, facing the stars again. It was too much.

"Yeah... I was hoping for this to come out after we defeated Zarkon and Haggar. After the universe was at peace again. Because... if people found out who I was before that, they wouldn't want me to be a paladin of Voltron. They'd probably demand for my immediate execution. They'd take their revenge for the galra empire out on me." I was rambling, starting to freak myself out. I was so scared, I hate feeling like this.

"Keith, I wouldn't let that happen. Please, I have to know."

Lance's POV:

"Keith, I wouldn't let that happen. Please, I have to know." "I can't believe I'm begging, but I need to know. I'm panicking right now." He turned and looked at me. I blinked, having to take a double take. Was... was his eyes watery? Is he really that scared?

"Okay. My mother... her name is Krolia." he whispered so low, I could barely hear. But, I did.

"W-what?" I asked, even though I knew what he said. That's just not what I was expecting at all.

"I-I'm Zarkon and Haggar's grandson." he continued, turning away from me. I could see him shaking. It was breaking my heart seeing him like that.

I swallowed, trying to wet down my dry throat. Slowly, I rolled onto my side, propping myself up on my elbow. I gently reached over and took his hand. Slowly, he looked back up at me. A tear, one single tear was making its way down the side of his face into his hair. I looked him in the eye, and smiled down at him.

"Keith, I don't care who you're related to. All I care about is that you're standing against the wrong they're doing. Your actions are the only thing I take into consideration." I said as softly as possible. He let out the breath he was holding, letting another tear fall. I reached over and gently wiped it away, letting my hand rest on his shoulder.

"Thank you." he said, smiling back. I grinned, laying back down, facing the stars.

"No problem."
