That afternoon Lily and Calynn talked about what they had said in the garden with Severus until Mrs. Evans called everyone to lunch. Calynn could not deny that her friend's mother cooked really delicious, so they came down eager to eat. Little Black really enjoyed those moments of living with her friend, of really feeling part of a family.
"Exquisite," Calynn said when she finished her plate. "My mother has never cooked so well," she said enthusiastically.
"Thank you." Mrs. Evans smiled, she didn't know very well how to respond to the comment about the girl's mother. "I left a pajamas in your room."
"Thank you," the girl replied kindly.
The girls got up, left their plates in the sink and went up to the room. They put on their respective pajamas and lay down each in their bed to start talking about their enthusiasm about Hogwarts.
"In a few days it will be my birthday," said the little girl with a sidelong.
"I assure you it will be a good birthday!" her friend encouraged her by detecting that sideways end of her sentence, she did not understand how she was going to miss her parents on her birthday after everything that had happened.
Calynn shook her head in the dark without the redhead noticing that gesture.
"It's not the same without my parents," the girl said sadly and with a bit of annoyance in her voice.
"Do you still consider them your parents?" That question had escaped Lily and she blushed instantly.
There was a small pause, neither spoke. Lily wasn't sure if her friend had been offended or caused her to be sadder than she already was.
"I'm sorry ..." Lily began. "It wasn't my intention, Calynn"
"Actually, I think you're right," her friend interrupted, "after what they've done to me, I think I don't need them," she continued. "Moreover, being close to them has only caused me many problems."
Lily smiled at her friend, she liked that she had understood the reality of her parents. Maybe it was a bit cruel to tell her the above in that way, but the redhead knew it was the truth. They said goodbye and decided to lie down to sleep peacefully, they had nothing to fear.
The months passed quickly, Calynn enjoyed her stay at her friend's house as if she were the last. They often went out to the garden to play and talk to Severus, played like Muggle children and tasted Mrs. Evans's food.
However, sometimes, at dawn, when Lily's parents thought that both girls were asleep; there were long disputes between Petunia and her parents always on the subject of Calynn's stay. Her friend's older sister was already tired of Calynn's stay and although the redhead's mother had forbidden her to reproach little Black for anything, Calynn didn't like causing problems."
"Don't worry," Lily said, "if Petunia would like to take me out of the house too."
It was the night before Calynn's birthday. The future Death Eater was lying in bed, looking at the ceiling thinking that in a few hours she would know if she could go to Hogwarts and it would also be her first birthday without her parents. When she reached that point her thoughts drifted to what they might be able to do by not spending her birthday with them. A lump formed in her throat at the thought that maybe her parents wouldn't let her go to Hogwarts or worse, that maybe they would go looking for her tomorrow. Fear ran through her, but in trying to find a solution to that, fatigue overcame her and she fell asleep.
Calynn was in a dark place, she was walking with two people by her side along a long path until they reached a fence.
"Pure blood, Druella Black." Said her mother's voice.
