You Can't Like Me

Leila's P.O.V 

"Really?" Kai asked. He looked concerned.

"What's wrong?" Leila reached out to touch his hand but he pulled it away.

Kai pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. "You can't like me Lei. Sorry, Leila. I just can't have everyone hate me more. I try doing the right thing. I stay tight to the rules but I always end up messing up anyway. No one will approve of you being with me. No one will let us be together. Seth loves you. He's better for you."

Leila watched him. He was truly afraid. "Kai. Please." She reached out to touch his face then hesitated for a second. Her hand centimeters from his jaw. He looked at her and Leila saw his eyes had a sparkle in them from the light reflecting on the tears forming in his eyes. She touched his face gently. "I.. I don't care what other people think. I imprinted on you. But if you want to start small and hidden. I can do that." Leila smiled and her face started burning up. Her stomach was filled with butterflies and her breath quickened. His skin was soft and warm under her hand. 

Kai grabbed her hand gently and pulled it away from his face. He laced his fingers into hers for a moment and looked into her eyes. A tear fell down his face. Then he pulled his hand away, wiped his eyes on his sleeve and ran his fingers through his hair once again as he walked out of the bathroom. 

Leila watched him go out and stood still. Thinking. She walked out later. Getting a few weird looks from some guys. She looked around but Kai was no where to be seen. She walked back to the cinema. The ads had started and Seth was sitting up anxiously in his seat. She walked over to him, forcing a smile and sat beside him. "Hey." She whispered.

Seth turned to her and leaned in closely. "Are you okay? Where'd you go?"

"I'm fine. I swear. I just had to go to the bathroom." She ruffled his short hair and smiled at him.

He nodded then sat back in his seat.

For the whole movie Leila felt sick with worry. Edward was hearing everything she thought. He knew she liked Kai. He knew where she went because she couldn't stop thinking about it. And the look of sorrow in Kai's face. She didn't pay attention to her at all. People laughed around her but she was completely zoned out.

Seth grasped her hand. She hoped he wouldn't notice how sweaty it was. She chewed her nails  on her free hand until they bled. Jacob noticed and stopped her. He held her other hand and they both did that until the end of the movie. She ate none of the popcorn. If she did she knew she would have thrown up so she just sat there thinking about Kai. Her eyes blurred and the screen became a blur of colours and shapes.

Seth rubbed his thumb gently on the top of her hand and Jacob squeezed her other hand every so often. At least Seth didn't know yet. But she would have to tell him. She couldn't let Edward.
