"She is too sociable to be autistic"...thank, that means her hard work for trying to appear "normal" is worth the meltdown tonight."-Unknown

Most of the time when I say I am Autistic most people think that Autism means anti-social. I am far from anti-social. In our house, we actually have a joke that none of us that none of anti-social, we just selective social. But most times in social situation I am social awkward including not knowing when to shut up when I am nervous in social situation. That most time I confused many people because people think that people with Autism are not social at all. As a woman on the spectrum, I learned social skills from those around me and hide the issues I had in social situations.

"I survive, in conversation, by analyzing the other participant and by trying to match my style of communication with that person's style. If I cannot see the phone, I might become nervous and uncomfortable, wondering how the person is reacting to my responses. This is not about people pleasing. But it is about adapting self, so that I do not drive people away with my tendency to overexpose self and trust fully."-Unknown
