Perfect Couple 2: Mr. Broken Meets Ms. Broke

Chapter 21

Napalingon ako sa pinto nang makarinig ako ng mahihinang katok.

"Come in."

Pumasok at lumapit sa table ko ang secretary kong si Kate.

"Sir, Mr. Eleazar Lee is here to see you but he has no prior appointment with you. Shall I let him in?"

Binitawan ko ang ballpen at ang mga reports na hawak ko at umayos ng upo.

"Do I have any more appointments this afternoon?" tanong ko.

She looked at the Ipad she always carries with her to check on my schedule.

"No, Sir. Your next appointment will be this evening with Ms. Amber," she answered with a straight face.

It always amazes me how she can keep that poker face. I have never seen her with any other expression before, not even once.

"Very well then... let Mr. Lee in and bring us coffee, please."

"Noted, Sir. Then, please excuse me," she said and turned to leave.

"Kate Winslet," I called her.

"Yes, Sir?"

"I thought I told you to not call me Sir. Drop that at once."

She just stared at me and shook her head.

"I'm afraid I can't do that, Sir. You're my boss after all," she answered and nodded at me before walking out of my office.

She sure had the guts to talk back at me and defy my command just because she knew I couldn't fire her.

Tumayo ako mula sa upuan ko at pumunta sa bintana para tingnan ang view sa labas.

Napalingon lang akong muli nang marinig kong bumukas ang pinto at pumasok si Mr. Eleazar Lee.

"Mr. Lee, what a surprise. Please have a seat," sabi ko at inabot ang kamay niya bago siya iginaya sa sofa.

"Mr. Henarez, I think you know why I'm here," sabi niya.

Pumasok si Kate at inilapag ang mga kape sa table.

"Of course. Any news on my bride-to-be?"

He looked like he aged a few years. Mukhang wala pa ring balita sa runaway bride ko.

"I truly apologize but we still don't have any idea on my daughter's whereabouts. I'm hoping you could give us some more time."

"I could give you more time if I could, Mr. Lee. But your business and mine could not."

Kinuha ko yung kape at sinimsim iyon. Black coffee with a cube of sugar - just how I liked it. 

"I'll give you two more months to find Myca, and if you can't, I'm sorry but the deal's over and I'll pull my investment out."

"Fair enough, Mr. Henarez. It has always been a pleasure doing business with you. You may be young but you are definitely cut out for business."

I just smiled.

Those are just mere words. Like I'd fall for meaningless compliments.

After an hour, umalis na rin si Mr. Lee and I went back to work.

Kate came in to gather the cups.

"Sir, I am not trying to pry but do you really need to pressure the old man?"

"Kate, Kate, Kate... I am not pressuring him. I'm just making sure I get the end of the bargain."

"Why do you have to get married to his daughter anyway?"
