it's the trickle of blood down your pant leg or at the back of your pants, or the red stains on your sheets. then, the feeling of embarrassment because it feels like everyone is looking at you and laughing, or you feel complete irritation because of the inconvenience.

but..period leakage is nothing to be ashamed about. there are two types of people who's had their period, and it's the one who's had a leak or the one who soon will. it's bound to happen, but it really doesn't have to be so "bad" when it does.

some causes:
- sleeping positions
- an already full pad
- a sneeze/cough/laugh
- a pad/tampon (etc.) that moves or isn't positioned correctly
- a pad/tampon that isn't proper for the length of the flow

ways to prevent leakages:
- wear tight underwear to keep your pad in place
- carry extra underwear, wet wipes, pads/tampons and other "period supplies" so you are always prepared
- sleep on your back, with your pad positioned more to the back. this may not work for everyone.
- sleep wit your knees pulled up to your chest, on your side. this works for me.
- make a "pad" out of toilet paper. make sure it's thick enough. you'll use it until you can get a tampon or pad.
- use a bag or hoodie to cover the back of your bottom
- ask someone for a pad or tampon
- wash the items as soon as you can with cold water. avoid hot water as it may set the stain.
- wash the item with detergent, hand soap, or even dishwashing soap.

ways to remove stains:
- rub salt or saline solution on the stain
- apply hydrogen peroxide or lemon juice to the stain
- try scrubbing the stain with aspirin or baking soda
