Rebecca's Perspective

Balancing a pencil on your nose is harder than it looks. I've been trying to go longer than a few seconds with doing that for the past few minutes now. It's not my fault this job gets boring.

"Ms. Lee?" Sasha called from behind me, "It's lunch time, okay? I'm going to run across the street."

"Mhm," I mumbled, focusing on keeping the pencil upright on the tip of my nose, "Don't freeze to death."

She chuckled, mumbling an "okay" before walking away. The pencil fell off for the seventeenth time, and I grunted. At least it was more than ten seconds this time. I put the pencil down on the table next to me, standing and stretching. The office was a bit more talkative now, since everyone was eating and conversing with each other. I don't recall bringing lunch but I wasn't hungry anyways.

I stood, stretching with a yawn, walking over to the mini fridge under the counter by the microwave, seeing what was in it that I could steal. There's that pack of cookies that Mr. Arlert brought in the other day. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I took a few. I reach in and grabbed three cookies, putting them on a napkin.

"Are those mine?" Someone asked timidly from behind me. I froze, turning around slowly, nodding guiltily. He smiled passively, "You can take as many as you please, just leave some for others." He took a handful for himself.

"Really?" I reached and grabbed two more.

"Yea, I brought them to be shared anyways." He shoved a cookie whole in his mouth, trying to chew it a little. "I take notice to some of the staff here that don't eat anything so I try to bring little snacks to at least wet their tongues, you know?"

I probably shouldn't have had the thoughts I did after hearing wet their tongues. "Right, right. Nice of you to do so." I said, not really understanding much of what he said since the food was muffling his speech.

He swallowed, smiled, and carried on walking to wherever he was headed. I watched as he walked away from me, confused yet entranced by how calmly he seemed to handle my thieving attempt.

It always confused me as to how calm he seems to be, always levelheaded and collected. I guess it's not too big a deal anyways. Unless you're me, someone who's angry at basically everyone.

"Rebecca!" Someone called from my left, "You got a second?"

I looked over to see Rokuro walking toward me, "Of course, why?" I stuffed a cookie in mouth.

"I noticed you didn't bring anything to eat today and I thought you'd be hungry." He said, opening his lunch bag.

"Alright, what do you got?" I said, looking at my wrist as if I'm wearing a watch. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, I interrupted with "Wait, times up."

"What do you mean?" He asked sounding lost,

"You asked if I had a second. A second passed." I snatched the sandwich and chips from his hands and went back to my usual spot in the office.

I hadn't bothered to look back and see Rokuro's expression but I figured it was the same "Oh Revy..." expression. I hate it. The sandwich had cheese, bologna, and lettuce on it with mayonnaise. Adequate. This and these chips ought to do for a day's lunch, I thought to myself as I bit into it.
