Rebecca's Perspective

I don't believe I've ever felt this surprised before. I couldn't even stutter out an answer. I don't even think I was breathing. "What?"

Ackerman sighed, dropping his shoulders as the microwave beeped. "Rebecca..."

"Mr. Ackerman, I..."

"Levi." He corrected, "Just call me Levi." I looked at him, still mentally racked by his outburst, unable to even come up with a response. "Look, I didn't want it to come out like that so forget I ever said that."

"Well, you can't unsay something you said. Just explain." I asked as he mixed his coffee.

"In that case, you can forget I exist then." He started back towards his desk.

Usually, when your crush finds out you like them, you get all shy and then the happy ending. I'm not saying he's mine but doesn't he want a happy ending? Who wouldn't?

I walked after him, finding him in front of his computer. "Levi, I need you to explain." He ignored me, focusing on his computer screen. I sighed a little tempered and walked around to cut off the monitor. He didn't look at me but I knew I had his attention. And he had mine. "Talk to me. This can't be you. This isn't like you."

"Yes it is, Rebecca. And for exactly this moment is why I've avoided showing this side of me." He'd finally given me his glance, but it was an angered yet scared expression. "Rebecca, I hide a lot about me. The one thing I suck at hiding is rage. Which is why I look so stern on a regular basis. But hiding things from you is a lost cause. It never works and I try, I really do try."

He let his head fall, allowing his short, raven black hair to cover his face. "Well," I started, again not having much to say, "You shouldn't try so hard then."

He looked up at me oddly, "What do you mean?"

"I mean, you're sweating hurricanes over here, Levi. Maybe that's what makes things so obvious." I said at attempts to sway the mood, "Relax a little, okay?"

I pat his shoulder before heading over to my own office. "Rebecca?"

"Revy," I corrected, "You can call me Revy." I looked back at him. He had an almost childish smile on his face, "Don't lose any sleep over today when you get home." He nodded before I went over to my room.

The maintenance guy had left a little ago; I heard him say he was leaving during our conversation. Today was an odd day from the start. Almost as off as the feeling I'd gotten when Levi was hired; I knew he'd be a stir but I hadn't expected this. It almost makes me think: did he get this job to be closer to me?

I put on my coat while allowing my mind to run. The lights were being shut off as I left my room, locking the door. From my side of the building I could see Levi by the multiple light switches, flickering them off. "I'm headed out, Ackerman." I announced, headed towards the door.

"Be safe on your way home." He said, waving me off as he made his way to his desk.

"You're gonna be here?" I questioned. I'm supposed to be the last one to leave the building but Okajima doesn't get on my ass about it.

"Yea, I have a few things to finish up." He said, looking back at me from his doorway. I shrugged, continuing for the door before he stopped me again: "Hey, what do you think about a little outing?"

"Outing?" I echoed, "That's by far the worst way to ask someone out, more over me."

He chuckled, "My mind is a little everywhere, cut me some slack. I did just confess a second ago." I smirked. It's almost strange how far off an opinion I had of him. "Can we try for Friday?"

I nodded, checking my schedule in my head, "I think I can squeeze you into my list of dweebs to annoy."

He grinned, telling me to be safe again before I said my goodbye and left. My ride had just pulled up as I walked out of the building. Benny was looking at his phone as I got in the passenger seat next to him. The heat was on and it was a wonderful relief. "Hey, Benny." I greeted as I sat down. He looked at me oddly, "What?"

"You seem..." His eyes shifted over my face while I waited for him to finish his sentence, "Happy. I mean, unusually, unseen happy."

"What? Just drive because I don't think you even know what you're talking about." I dismissed, tugging my seatbelt over my chest.

"Oh really?" He quizzed, "Then why do you have this strange glow about you?"

I looked at him oddly as he pulled off, "What do you mean 'glow'?"

He shrugged, watching the lane next to him, "That little odd look like 'I just found out a really hot senior likes me' kind of glow."

I sighed; am I really that readable? "Well, it's kinda like that actually."

"Wow, Revy, what happened to you?" He smirked, "Ever since you've gotten this job, you've changed a bit."

I took the scrunchie out of my hair, messing it a little. "I believe it too. There's just some oddities there that I'm adjusting to."

"Oh really?" He said, pulling to a stoplight. There was a couple across the street arguing over something I couldn't hear, nor did I pay much attention to listening to but seeing how engaged they were in their little argument was enough to watch. They seemed kind of familiar though.

"Benny?" I said, grabbing his attention before the light changed, "How do dates work?"

"Woah, what?" He exclaimed, taking his attention off the road for a split second. He had to swerve back into his lane or he'd hit a car in the other lane.

I chuckled, "It's a simple question, Benny. I'm just curious is all."

"Curious, right..." He said in disbelief. I shook my head, leaving against the cold window and watching as the blackened scenery past us by. My mind was still on that couple; who were they and why did it feel like I knew them? Maybe I'll just give my mind a rest for today...
