Rebecca's Perspective

I am so warm right now. I love the feeling of being in bed, wrapped in warm covers. The bad part is when you have a job. And having a job means punctuality. However, I cannot wake any earlier than twelve if I don't have an alarm clock.

The irritating buzz of the alarm clock next to my bed struck my eardrums like nails to a chalkboard. I groaned, unplugging it for the hundredth time since I got this damned job. I sat up, my eyes still closed, scratching my head. The dim light of the sun poured through the cracks of the window's blinds and onto my face.

"What time is it?" I yawned, looking at my clock, remembering I unplugged it. "Oh, right..." I'm probably late, nonetheless.

"Revy, get up!" My bunkmate called from elsewhere in our apartment.

"Yea, yea. I'm up!" I called back, dressing in my clean set of uniform and walking to the living room. "Why're you yelling so early in the morning?"

"Because your ass should've been at work thirty minutes ago." My bunkmate, Benny, said, "I actually postponed a date of my own because I had to wait for you to decide to wake up."

"Look, don't go blaming me for your selfless decisions. It was nice to be a good Samaritan but no one asked you to." I spat sharply.

Benny smirked, "And here I thought you'd appreciate my efforts."

I looked away, subtly regretting my rudeness but holding the apathetic expression on my face. "Well, are you dropping me off or what?"

"Might as well, since I'm still here," he replied casually, "After all, it is why I am still here."

I grabbed my jacket and followed him out to the car, sitting in the front passenger seat. Benny refuses to let me drive, though I'm not very sure why. Yea, I may have tried to kill a guy before while behind the wheel but he was walking two steps a year; he was asking for it!

"So where exactly are you going that I made you late to?" I asked on our way to the office.

He grinned, "Let's not worry about what I'm doing, eh, Revy?" I huffed, crossing my arms. He chuckled at my attitude. I hate when he does that. "How is work going for you?"

"Let's not worry about that, eh, Benny?" I mocked, causing him to laugh. I looked out the window at the passing scenery, which wasn't much but trees and row houses.

We pulled into the lot and the first thing I notice is Mr. Ackerman's parked sedan. He's earlier than me? Not to mention I'm only thirty minutes late. That's pretty damn early!

"Try not to get into any trouble today, Rev, okay?" Benny pleaded from beside me. I was still a little caught on Mr. Ackerman being earlier than me. "Revy?"

I glanced at Benny, realizing that he was actually talking to me. "What?"

He chuckled, "Nothing. Just have a good day, okay? Try not to kill anyone today."

I nodded, stepping out of the car and waving him off after shutting the door. Strangely, today wasn't as cold as a winter's day; it felt more like spring than anything. I opened the front door to see a few faces, the normal ones, but it still seemed like people were missing, though I couldn't pinpoint who.

I shrugged it off and went over to my room, leaving my coat there and cutting on the small TV screens that showed the surveillance cameras' views. The whole Mr. Ackerman's car thing was still gnawing at my head. I wanted to get up and go to his office but I also didn't want to seem like a stalker.

"Good morning, Ms. Lee!" A sweet yet annoying voice chimed from the doorway.

"What do you want, Sasha?" I demanded impatiently.

"I was just greeting you is all." She sang out.

I sighed, feeling heavyhearted even trying to be stern with her. I glanced at her happy face, "Good morning, Sasha." I said back.

She grinned and disappeared to somewhere. I watched as she trotted off, continuing to contemplate going to Mr. Ackerman's office or not. "I feel I'm going to regret this", I mumble to myself. I sigh, stand, and begin to walk towards his office. A part of me wanted to turn around and go back to my own room, forgetting this whole decision. But by the time I decided to turn around, I was already pushing open his unlocked office door, where the lights were off and his chair was empty.

I was utterly confused. Who else here would know where he is? All the other publishers aren't going to be here until next Monday. The only other person I could think of was that one guy with the weirdly round head. What is his name? Is he even here? I looked around to see if he was and, sure enough, his large and awkward head was right at his cubicle.

I walked over, trying to be as casual as I could, "Hey, um, can I ask you a question?" I said.

He looked up from his desk, "Sure, I guess."

"Do you, by any chance know why Mr. Ackerman's car is here and he isn't?"

He shrugged, "You're not the only confused one around here. As a matter of fact, a couple of us were talking about it."

"Hmm." I thought to myself, "Also, don't hate me for this but I don't really know your name."

"It's alright. Connie Springer." He said politely. "You're Ms. Lee, right?"

"Yea. But some just call me by my first name, Rebecca." I suggested.

"Then, I'll go with that." He agreed. "You know what, come to think of it," he said thinking,

"Come to think of?"

"Maybe Mr. Arlert may know. They were the last two here last night. Ask him, if he's here."

Mr. Arlert? Why would he know? Why do they even interact? That short, smartass idiot isn't allowed to converse with him... Well, he is but I just don't want him to. He may infect him with dumbassery or something.

"I'll go check with him then." I said, rubbing my chest as I walked towards his office.

For some reason, there is now a tightness in my chest. I don't feel comfortable knowing that dumbass talks to Mr. Arlert; I'm not sure why either. To add to the feeling, fortunately, Mr. Arlert wasn't here either. Now, I'm really confused. Why am I suddenly obsessing over these two anyways? I'm Rebecca Lee, the loud and apathetic bitch who couldn't care less about anyone! What's gotten into me? I'm probably going to be thinking of this for the next few days now; thanks a million...
