"Sapphire," Logan's voice cut through the air as he walked into the kitchen. I quickly wiped away the tears that had been pooling in my eyes and looked up at him. "Let's go," he said, his tone firm.
"But I haven't had my breakfast yet. Sara is making soup," I replied, placing a hand on my belly to emphasize my point.
"You'll get soup at my mom's house. Let's go," he insisted, dismissing my excuse with a wave of his hand.
Sara, who had been quietly stirring the pot on the stove, stepped in. "Logan, I think you should let her have her breakfast. She's not feeling well," she told him, her voice filled with concern.
Logan barely spared her a glance. "She'll have soup later," he groaned, his patience clearly wearing thin. I sighed in frustration.
"Why should I even go with you? Don't you have a girlfriend?" I fired back, my voice laced with anger. Logan's expression darkened, and before I knew it, he was pulling me out of the kitchen with an iron grip on my arm.
"Let me go! I can walk!" I shouted, yanking my hand out of his grasp. I was fuming, but I got into the car without another word, too exhausted to argue further.
Christy opened the car door just as I was about to close it. "Umm... You should be in the back," she said, popping her bubble gum obnoxiously while batting her eyelashes at Logan. I bit back a retort and slammed the door before climbing into the back seat. The ride to Logan's parents' house was unbearable. Christy and Logan were all over each other in the front seat, making lovey-dovey eyes and touching like I wasn't even there. I stared at my fingers, trying to ignore the knot tightening in my chest. I was just angry—angry that he used me, that he had slept with me while having a girlfriend.
When we finally arrived, I couldn't get out of the car fast enough. I ran into the house, eager to escape the suffocating tension. "Sapphire!" Logan called after me, but I ignored him. The front door opened, and Serena greeted me with a warm smile.
"Hey, I missed you so much," she said, pulling me into a hug. I managed a small smile as I hugged her back.
"I think you've put on a little weight, darling," she commented as she pulled back, eyeing me with a concerned look.
"Not at all," I giggled, brushing off her observation, but the tension in my chest didn't ease.
Logan walked in behind me, and Serena's attention shifted. "Logan, who's your friend?" she asked, glancing between him and Christy.
"She's my girlfriend, Mom," Logan replied, and I saw Serena's eyes widen in surprise. She looked over at me, clearly confused.
"We broke up," I said quietly, offering a half-hearted shrug before walking off to the living room. I needed to put some distance between myself and whatever mess Logan was creating.
"Sapphire, you're here!" Isabella called out as she waddled over to me, her pregnant belly leading the way. I couldn't help but giggle at her determined walk, and she glared at me playfully.
"Don't laugh at the pregnant lady," she warned, plopping down beside me on the couch.
"How's everything with you and Logan?" she asked, and I immediately started fiddling with my fingers, the question hitting too close to home.
"Umm... we broke up," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
"What? Why?" Isabella's eyes widened in shock, her hand instinctively moving to her baby bump.
"He has a new girlfriend now," I said, trying to sound nonchalant, but the words felt like knives slicing through me.
"Well, Logan's an idiot for letting you go. He never wants to settle down," she said, shaking her head in disapproval. We talked for a while longer, but I couldn't shake the heavy feeling in my chest.
