LOGAN POV

I was hunched over my desk, the weight of the day pressing down on me. The numbers on the screen blurred as I tried to focus on the latest shipment report, but my mind kept wandering. I hadn't stopped thinking about Sapphire since my visit to Adonis's place. I should've said more; I should've mentioned the baby. Guilt coiled tightly in my chest.

Just as I was about to give in to my frustration, my phone rang. I grabbed it, glancing at the screen to see it was Sapphire's number. My heart raced, a mix of hope and anxiety, and I answered quickly.

"Hey, Sapphire! I was just thinking about you," I said, trying to keep my tone casual.

But it wasn't Sapphire's voice that greeted me. "Hello, is this Logan?" a female voice said, slightly breathless.

"Uh, yeah. Who is this?" I asked, confusion washing over me.

"I'm Scarlett, Sapphire's friend. I tried calling Adonis, but I couldn't get through to him, so I saw your number saved in her phone and thought I'd reach out."

Panic flared in my chest. "What's going on? Where's Sapphire?"

"Listen, we were just leaving the mall, and a group of men approached us in the parking lot. It got really scary, and..." Her voice trembled slightly. "Sapphire got hurt badly. We're at the hospital now."

My heart sank like a stone. "What do you mean hurt? Is she okay?"

"She's stable, but she hit her head. The doctors are checking her out, and the babies are fine," Scarlett rushed to explain, but the relief didn't reach me. I felt sick at the thought of her being hurt.

"I'm on my way," I said, my voice firm, pushing away the dread threatening to swallow me whole.

"Logan, please—" Scarlett started, but I hung up, urgency fueling my movements. I grabbed my jacket and rushed out of my office, my heart pounding in my chest as I raced toward the door.

I didn't care about anything else at that moment. All that mattered was getting to Sapphire, making sure she was okay. I had to see her. I had to know that she was safe.

As I sped through the streets, my mind raced with thoughts of Sapphire. I replayed Scarlett's words over and over: "Sapphire got hurt badly." Each repetition made my stomach churn with anxiety. The thought of her in pain, especially while carrying the baby, made my blood boil. Who were those men? I needed answers.

When I finally pulled into the hospital parking lot, I barely remembered to put the car in park. I jumped out and rushed inside, the sterile smell of antiseptic hitting me like a wall. I approached the front desk, my pulse quickening.

"Where is Sapphire?" I demanded, my voice low but urgent.

The receptionist looked up, momentarily taken aback by my intensity. "Do you have a visitor's pass?" she asked hesitantly.

"No, but I need to see her. She's my... my girlfriend. She was just brought in." I lied; I just needed to get to her.

"Okay, please calm down. Let me check." She typed something into her computer, and after what felt like an eternity, she looked up. "Room 203."

I nodded and took off down the hall, my heart pounding in sync with my footsteps. As I reached the room, I hesitated for just a moment, fear gripping my chest. What if she was hurt beyond repair? I pushed the door open, and the sight before me nearly brought me to my knees.

Sapphire lay in the hospital bed, her face pale and a bandage wrapped around her forehead. I rushed to her side, the sight of her so vulnerable sending a fresh wave of guilt crashing over me. She looked up, her eyes heavy but brightened with a flicker of recognition.

"Logan," she whispered, a small smile breaking through her pain.

"Hey," I replied, forcing back the tremor in my voice. "What happened?"

As Sapphire recounted the conversation with the gunman, I could see the fear return to her eyes.

"It was right before we made it back to the mall," she started quietly, her voice trembling slightly. "One of the men grabbed my arm, yanking me back just as I thought we'd escaped. He had a gun in his other hand, and he... he looked furious."

I stayed silent, letting her continue.

"He pulled me close, his grip tight, and he whispered, 'You think you can run, huh? Your boyfriend killed my brother. He was precious to me, and now you're going to pay for that.'"

I felt a cold rage building inside me as I listened. Sapphire's voice wavered, but she kept going.

"I asked him, 'What are you talking about? Who are you?' And that's when he said it..." She paused, glancing up at me, eyes filled with emotion. "He told me his brother died because of me, because you were protecting me."

I clenched my jaw, every muscle in my body tensing. "Who was he?" I growled.

"I don't know," she whispered. "But he said, 'You're precious to Logan, right? Well, that makes you the perfect target.'"

Her voice broke, and I could barely contain my fury. "He said he was going to kill me, Logan. He wanted to make you suffer the way he suffered."

The room felt smaller, suffocating with the weight of her words. My mind was racing through every possible enemy, every vendetta. I had a feeling it was Roman.

"I told him he didn't have to do this, that he had the wrong idea, but he just... laughed. He said, 'You don't get it, do you? Your life means nothing now. Logan's going to lose you, just like I lost him.'"

I felt my heart twist painfully at the thought of her in that moment, facing down a man who wanted her dead because of me. "I tried pulling away from him but he slammed my head against the door as if he was trying to knock me unconscious but failed to do so, that's how I got this bandage. My forehead was bleeding like crazy" he said and I could feel a sharpe pain stabbing in my chest.

"How did you get away?" I asked, my voice strained.

"Scar... Scarlet kicked him. Hard. Right in the shin then his balls. It was all she could think to do, and she helped me up because my body was starting to feel weak after losing blood. We ran into the mall where more people were and I didn't look back, not until Scarlett and I were inside the mall."

The words hung in the air, heavy and full of everything unsaid. My hands tightened into fists as I stared at her. I didn't care who this man was or what his twisted reason for revenge was—no one was going to threaten Sapphire and get away with it.

"I swear to you, Sapphire," I said, my voice low and dangerous. "I'm going to find him. And when I do, he's going to wish he never touched you."

Her eyes met mine, and for a moment, the fear in them was replaced by something else—trust. But I knew that trust came with a cost, and now more than ever, I had to protect her.

"Logan," she whispered, "please, just be careful."

I nodded, my resolve hardening. "I will. But I'm not letting him get anywhere near you again."
