Chapter 15- Next morning
Tobias's POV
I knew that a lot of Dauntless knew about Tris's pregnancy. The next morning, I leave my son for the first time to go get some breakfast in the cafeteria. And when I get there the reaction is not huge which is a good thing. I didn't want my son to already be pressured on his first day.
I mean, the son of two dauntless prodigies does have certain expectations.
So I do go there, and as I'm doing the line a few people come and congrats me on my newborn. I grab Tris's cravings of food and coffee. She missed coffee so much during her pregnancy and when she got the approval
- "Four, congrats on the baby, is Tris ok?" Max asked taping my back
- "Yes, they both are," I said with a smile, a little bit fake-smile if you ask me.
- "Ah! Well, I can't wait to see if he will be as good as his father and mother, huh?" he says with a smile as well but he seems sincere. I nodded.
- "I should get back to it," I say, he nods and we both go our parted ways.
I go back to the hospital and get into the room where we spent the past 32 hours. When I come into the room, Tris is all dressed. The nurse was helping Tris to breastfeed.
Tris was lied down on her bed with our son in her arms. The nurse had settled a little blanket over my wife's shoulder so that the baby wasn't bothered by the bright hospital light and so that she wouldn't feel uncomfortable whenever someone would walk in.
She noticed me and smiled, a very tired smile. I went next to her, kissed her forehead and said:
- "Hey, babe," I said massaging her shoulder.
The baby started crying really loudly and his little face turned red.
- "He's so beautiful," I said as I sat on the bed next to my wife, "I'm grateful, thank you so much, my love," I said kissing her forehead again.
- "Just so you know: how you make a baby, I needed you too," she said as the nurse smiled at the both of us. I chuckled.
- "Yes, true, but I got the fun part and that's it, you got a tiny little fun part compared to all the work you've done. Counting the pregnancy for all nine months, and then the birth," I said.
That's when Alex began to cry once again, letting go of Tris's nipple again.
- "He's a tricky one, he doesn't seem too hungry," the nurse said once again helping him to be comfortable so he could peacefully have his meal.
- "So, after this, you are free to go," she started. "If there is anything at all that you are wondering about, some things that you're worried about, don't know if it's normal, or anything else just call us, we would be happy to help," the nurse said.
She smiled at us and left the room.
As soon as Alex was done, another nurse came and helped to get the baby ready. Tris was very sore so she was struggling to walk at first. Soon, Tris was dressed and I was putting on the baby clothes we had picked for the little boy.
People stared as we walked through the hallways, many others congratulated us. The baby was cradled in my arms and the bag was over my shoulder. Tris was walking next to me.
Well... us.
We suddenly came across Miya and Timothy, holding hands and looking young and happy couple as ever.
- "Hey guys, how's it been? Dauntless life?" Tris asked
- "Good... very good, we moved in together!" she said as both their cheeks turned red.
Tris and I both smiled.
- "Wow, I remember when we moved in together. That was a long time ago, we're getting old," Tris said to me with a smile.
- "You guys are still super young!" she said with a smile, then her gaze drifted towards the sleeping baby in my arms, "Is that your son?" she asked taking a small step towards us.
- "Yes," Tris tells her, "His name's Alex."
- "How old is he?" she asked, I laughed. Tris did too "what?" Miya asked
- "He's about..." Tris said with a smile and then looked at me.
- "Eight hours?" I said. My wife nodded with a satisfied smile.
- "Oh my god, congrats!" Miya said touching Tris shoulder slightly.
- "Wow, yeah, you guys..." Timothy added.
- "Thank you..." I said as the small boy moved a little from his sleep in my arms.
- "I want one," Miya suddenly blurted out looking at the baby than him.
Timothy's face was priceless. He immediately turned to her, his mouth slightly opened and his eyes doubled in size.
- "What? Please tell me you're talking about something else than the little baby..." he said.
- "Let's have one too!" she said to him.
- "Baby, we can't even take care of a plant!" he said
- "It was just that one plant!" she protested
- "There's a reason why that was the only one!" he answered.
He scratched the back of his neck.
- "Ok... Well... we'll see you guys around. Looks like we have a big conversation ahead of us" he says. Tobias and I laugh
- "You're welcome," at them.
They leave, walking debating about having a kid...
There's was a time we were like that.
But not anymore...
