Chapter 18- Mysterious Hero 

Alex's POV

When we're all on the passerelle there are those three Amity girls, one is clearly being harsh with the two other towards a short Abnegation girl. Probably the cliché bitchy amity...

Then the train comes, I'm in the back of everyone with a few other Dauntless who start running. 

I tell the Aminty girl:

- "If you wanna catch that train, you better start running."

- "Who are you to give me shitty pieces of advice?" she snapped. I looked at the train coming this way. 

- "A Dauntless-born that has done this a lot and that knows that on the first try it's hard," I say

- "Ha," she laughs, but then she and her two friends started running, pushing the Angnegation girl on the hard metal. 

The train was right beside us. I went to her and helped her up, putting her back on her feet. I took her petite body and ran. Fast. I ran and put her in the last train, the transfers one, latching onto the door at the last second for me. I looked at the low ground. 

Damn... I hate heights. 

Everyone was looking at her. And then at me as I got into the train. 

- "Are you a Dauntless-born?" an Erudite guy asked

- "Do I look Amnity to you?" I asked him, raising an eyebrow.

- "How the hell did you do that?" asked the bitchy Amity girl.

- "Practice..." I said. 

I went against the train, my arms crossed. 

I looked in the train in front of us, Ruein was nowhere to be seen. 

- "Is it hard to get into Dauntless?" a condor boy asked

- "How would I know?" I asked

He blushed and looked away. Candor people, always too open and honest. 

- "Are you trying to give us a tough impression of you or are you really gonna show us you're a softy inside," another Amity girl said. 

I stepped towards her, I was taller than her, not by as much as the Abnegation girl though.

- "I am a softy inside, but no one ever sees that side of me," I said.

I look out the train and notice the top of Dauntless headquarters. I open the door.

- "Especially not someone like you," I added before jumping and landing on my two feet. 

- "Thank god!" I heard someone yell and I immediately knew who that was. 

Ruein caught up to me and put her arm around my shoulders. 

- "Oh my god, hi, I thought you left..." she says letting a breath.

- "Left?" I asked

- "To another faction, of course..." she said with a smile. 

Everyone starts walking towards Eric who's on the edge of the building. 

Dad's words ring in my ears: Don 't be frightened, there's a net at the bottom.

- "I'm Eric, I'm one of many leaders, if you wanna get in Dauntless you jump... if not, then we'd gladly give you some Amity bracelets to make here on the roof," he says.

Some kids looked around at the deserted roof. 

"Now, who's gonna go first?" 

Silence. 

Fuck this. 

- "Me," I say, everyone turns towards me and lets me go through.

- "Alex, Alex, a rebel, just like your mom..." he says with a disgusted look plastered on his face. 

I don't think I just jump over the edge. And hit the net seconds later. 

My mom gets me out, hugs me. 

- "I knew you'd stay, thank god you're here," she says then she yelled behind her, "Alex, first jumper!"

Some people cheered. 

- "My baby..." she said, hugging me one last time before the next kid jumped, yelling.

When everyone was done, I hear Mike, Peter's son starting trouble. 

Mom always said that after getting that poor girl pregnant, he threatened her to get married and they had the child. Dad added later on that he probably felt threatened when all his friends and age were getting married and all and he still had nothing in his life to do. 

- "What are you doing here? Lost your way stiff?" Mike says. 

She ignores him. 

- "Hey yo, I'm talking to you? You deaf stiff?"

- "Leave her alone," her Amity girl said. Mike was about to punch her and probably start a scene, but I stop his wrist.

- "You do not wanna get into this," I tell him, he removes his punch.

But tries to puts it back again. Keyword: tries. The Amity girl moves the girl so Mike misses and put it in the air. And then he tries to hit me next but misses. Mike grunts. 

- "You'll never survive here, no stiff has ever made it through initiation," he yelled at her. 

- "That's not true, I've heard that two stiff came here and they even were both tops of their class," says the Amity girl that defended Kaeiq.

- "You're right my bad, you know who the two of them are?" 

She shook her head. 

- "Alex's parents," he said

Everyone turned to look at me. But the only eyes I noticed were the Abnegation girl's. She had really, really light blue eyes. She squinted those eys though, to study me. 

- "That's right the two only stiffs got married and had a child: Alex," Mike said

- "Nobody cares... especially if I beat your ass at initiation," I said.
