"Are you kidding? This obviously goes first." Minho's hand slid across the table, moving the paper along with it.
"Are you stupid, this one comes first." Jisung nagged, taking his own paper to the top of the list.
"Uh, not to interrupt your...whatever you call this, but actually both of you are wrong. It's this one." A boy with deep brown hair raised a paper to rearrange it. However as he spoke he gained the glares of both Jisung and Minho, encouraging him to then retreat his hand, placing the paper back in its original position, as the two continued arguing.
Minho threw his hands up in frustration turning away from the rest of the group who, apart from Jisung, were very distraught by the arguement.
Two other boys sat in their row trying to get the work done. Though the back and forth bickering of the other two group members made it quite difficult. Jisung would say something, then Minho would say something else. Jisung would insult him, then Minho would turn away in frustration, only to turn back seconds later with a snarky remark and the cycle would start over.
"Guys we're finished." Minho looked back to see the two group members, who were actually doing what they were supposed to, had finished.
"Oh." Jisung and Minho felt a little stupid now, having argued about something so silly. But then again they found eachother excruciatingly painful to be around.
-
I huffed, sitting back down in the uncomfortable plastic chair tucked under my desk. My head rested on my hands as I heard the rest of my group show the teacher our work.
"Impressive work boys!" Mrs Jung placed a gold star sticker on the paper in front of her and left without any further comments.
The boys smiled, well apart from me. I just grimaced in the corner. I felt so stupid for arguing in front of people like that. They probably think I'm an idiot now. This was all Minho's fault.
On the other hand, I could tell Minho had already long forgotten the argument as he balanced a pen on the top of his upper lip.
"You know you should at least try to get along with Jisung if we're doing a group thing." Junyoung's comment made Minho's pen fall to his desk as he turned to Junyoung.
"You have a problem? I don't care what you want or what you think. If I want to argue, I'll argue." I could tell Junyoung found his response slightly overdramatic but also threatening, as I did, so he turned away pretending to continue with his 'work'.
I tried not to turn my head after overhearing the other's conversation. It made me feel worst when Junyoung had implied the arguing was annoying, as it only proved my thoughts. Though Minho's comment stuck with me a bit longer.
'I don't care what you want or what you think. If I want to argue, I'll argue.'
Did he really think that? Or was it just an attempt to seem cool? Though from what I remember Minho never was cool, nor did he really try to be. Maybe Minho genuinely didn't care. But how is that possible? How can he not care what people think? Maybe it was only me who thought things like that.
The sound of the bell was agonizingly painful yet equally relieving, as I left my seat and continued to the cafeteria. I immediately turned away as the huge crowd of people filling the space was overwhelming.
I didn't go to lunch the first day I was here as I was seeing the principal about classes and teachers and all that junk you would usually sort out on your first day. So when I saw the cafeteria for the first time, I just didn't bother.
I figured it wouldn't be a big deal, I'll just find a tree to sit under. Away from all the people.
Luckily a perfect spot arose as I spotted a tree on the edge of the school oval where I could sit in peace, or so I thought.
I made my way to this tree and planted myself on the ground of grass and dirt, yeah mostly dirt. As I made myself comfortable I grabbed the lunch I had packed from this morning. I have this odd habit, that I don't so much enjoy, but I can't help but express my joy for food. As the lid off my lunch container was pulled off, the sound of my soft hums were apparent. I couldn't help but tend to sing or hum something before I ate. Yes, a little weird but there are much weirder things in this world.
I didn't stop my humming, as I let it go on through my chewing. Unfortunately I was unaware of the pair of ears that would hear me from the other side of the tree.
"Can you be quiet, I'm trying to read." To say I froze up would be accurate. I was so taken a back by his presence, I didn't just stop humming but I stopped breathing altogether. Once I got a grip on myself, I turned to see who had interrupted my eating.
I wasn't surprised to see Minho. However I was surprised by the fact he was reading. Minho, reading a book, unironically, in his free time? Something didn't add up.
Unfortunately for me, my words slipped as I had no way to stop my thoughts becoming sentences.
"Are you...reading?" Minho rolled his eyes as he placed a finger on the page, as not to lose where he was.
"Yeah? What about it? Do you have-" I knew where he was going so I decided it would be best to just answer now.
"No, I don't have a problem at all, I'm just...surprised is all." I could tell Minho was a little annoyed at me for interrupting him in both the book and his sentence but what can I say? It was payback? Though making him a little annoyed didn't exactly sum up all of the debt he had gained from his infamous pranks. This, was only a fraction of the price.
