A boy beside me tapped my shoulder. The touch grabbed my attention as I looked up to the teacher. It had become clear she was asking for me.
"U-uh I- sorry- what?" My face would have been beyond red. Anyone could see I was flustered beyond reason. They were right, I had no reason to be like this. Plenty of students don't pay attention and get called on out of nowhere but it was things like this that really got to me.
The eyes that drilled through me, the stares that would stain my thoughts for an eternity. How was I ever going to forget this...
A normal person would smile and move on. But that's just the thing. I guess I'm not normal? It doesn't matter. Either way Mrs Sun wasn't happy.
"Jisung pay attention in my class. If I catch you drifting off again we'll have a problem. Got it?" I couldn't say a word. So instead my head vigorously jolted up and down, suggesting my understanding. Though it looked more as though I was shaking something out of my hair then anything.
-
Back in health class, once again. I sat in the back, as usual. I scoffed as I saw the familiar light toned hair float through the door. Good. Another class I can use to mess with him.
As the boy sat down I realised he hadn't even noticed my presence drifting in the back of the classroom. A little offended, if I'm honest.
As the class went on, I noticed him drift off as every other student struggled not to do the same. I didn't have to do anything. Just sit back and wait for the universe to do its job. After all, I didn't mind just sitting back and watching the magic happen.
As I predicted, Mrs Sun soon realised his daydreaming and immediately took action. The sound of Jisung's name was faint at first but with every call it got louder, trying to grab the ignorant boys attention.
Eventually he noticed and flicked his head up to see a face of flames staring back at him.
Even from where I was sitting, I had a full view of his despair. His cheeks were brighter then red. I actually started to feel bad for the guy. He looked uncomfortable and frankly...scared. What was he afraid of exactly?
The class ended fairly quickly after that, well quickly compared to the first part of the lesson. I walked towards my usual spot under the tree. And I have to say without Hyunjin...I kind of did have no friends. I mean we hang out with a bunch of people like Seungmin and Jeongin but I guess they were more Hyunjin's friends then mine. A little sad, I know. I brushed the thought off before it became a big deal and took out my book and my lunch placing the container beside me. The bookmark holding my place was swiftly removed as I continued reading.
Some might find it odd for me to be the type to read, but it was something I really enjoyed, as I did many other things besides being an asshole.
I was fairly enveloped in the pages, so I didn't hear much around me. Though when the faint sound of humming filled my ears, my focus was broken. I thought he did this yesterday? Did he forget?
"Jisung!" I could tell the boy was taken aback as I turned to see him.
"What the?! Oh...right...I forgot." My eyebrows flattened, I held back an eye roll as I looked in disbelief.
"No shit Sherlock." I guess I was a little harsh but who said I was going to be nice to him.
"Well, can you just let me sit here. It's the only place in the school that's quiet." I let out a sigh.
"Yeah, I know. Thats why I read here." I looked at the grass, thinking for a moment. "Ok, you can sit here, on one condition." Jisung's eyes widened waiting for me to continue.
"You can't do that singing thing you do when you eat." Jisung dropped his shoulders, slightly disheartened at my request.
"Ok. I won't. I'll be as quiet as possible." Jisung nodded, as did I. It was a deal.
The next day went like any other. Classes? Boring. People? Annoying. Day? Long as hell. Lunch came round and who would've guessed? I went to the tree. I was not looking forward to having Jisung interrupt my peace but as long as he was quiet, We wouldn't have a problem.
I was surprised when I didn't see the familiar blonde perched beneath the leaves of the tree. I wasn't upset, in fact I was relieved. But where exactly did he go?
-
"Jisung right?" I nodded at him, though he intimidated me a fair bit. His jaw was sharp and he dressed in all black making him almost seem like a shadow roaming the halls. "I'm Changbin." I leant forward meeting his hand to shake it. The three of them were smiling at me. As much as I was aware they were just trying to be friendly, I couldn't help but gain the feeling of being judged.
"So...what do you like to do?" I could tell Chan struggled to come up with a conversation starter that wasn't too specific but enough to let them know a bit more about me.
"I don't know, I don't do much." Of course I had my music, but it might be odd to say that was all I did.
"He likes music!" Felix popped his head up from his lunch. I couldn't help but let an awkward grin reach my face. Luckily, I don't think it crossed their mind.
"Really?! Well me and Changbin spend most of our lives making music." Chan chuckled, laughing at his own remark.
"It's mostly Chan though." Changbin added, I was actually happy. I couldn't believe out of all the friends I could have gotten, I got to be introduced to probably two of the only students who took music as seriously as I did.
"I spend every lasting hour making music and writing lyrics. Although I didn't want to mention it before, it's pretty much all I do." Chan's smile grew as he heard my words. I could tell he was happy to know another person who was so dedicated to his art form.
"Well, maybe you should come down to our makeshift studio sometime, show us a couple tracks?" I didn't know what to say. Chan's offer was a really cool opportunity and to be able to get other people's insight would be an eye opener, it was sort of just what I needed.
"Maybe I will."
