I was almost about to drift into a afternoon nap when the doorbell sounded through the house. I knew that one of my parents would get it so I laid back on my pillow as I closed my eyes again, only to open them when I heard my name.
"Jisung! There's someone at the door for you." I groaned, my nap having been interrupted, and I tiredly stomped my way to the door. I sure hope it isn't anyone important, I haven't even changed out of my pyjamas yet.
I rubbed my eyes a bit as I got closer to the door. My mother was standing in the living room, seeming as though she had just left me with the stranger she had met at the door. As I lowered my hands from my eyes I finally saw who was standing in front of me.
It was as if my body flicked a switch into panic mode for the millionth time. My heart had once again started to beat faster, my cheeks had once again become a cherry colour and breathing was once again proving to be a difficult task.
"M-Minho, w-what the hell are you doing here?" I could've sworn, maybe, Minho's cheeks flushed a light shade of pink as he answered.
"I know it's unexpected and random and crazy but we have our assignment due on Monday and I didn't know what else to do because I didn't have your number. Then I remembered I knew where your house was so...here I am?" Minho's hand gestured to himself as he ended his mini rant.
I had no idea what to say. He was right, we had an assignment, but it wasn't going to get done with us just standing at the door staring at each other.
"U-Uh, c-come in." I don't think I could have looked more flustered, and stuttering only made it ten times worst.
I led Minho to my room. I caught a questioning glance from my mother but I glared back signalling that it was not the time to get involved. Lucky for me she got the message and settled on asking another time.
Once we reached the bedroom I realised again what I was wearing and the state that my hair must have been in.
"S-sorry about all the shit everywhere. I-I'm gonna get changed." Minho just nodded as he stood in the middle of my bedroom. I grabbed a few things from my scattered closet and ran to the bathroom.
As I stood in the bathroom, many thoughts started to rain over me. Why did I have to be so messy? Oh god what if I left a pair of underwear lying around? Or one of my cringey lyric sheets?
I rubbed my hands over my face trying to cover my dread. I quickly slipped into a pair of grey skinny jeans and a hoodie, combing my hair with my hand. My face sure was red. I hit my face with a splash of cold water before heading back into my bedroom.
When I entered I noticed Minho hadn't moved from his spot, standing in the middle of my room with his bag slung over his shoulder. I looked around my room and I hadn't lost sight of the fact my room was in utter shambles. I managed to push a few things out of the way, throwing some clothes over my desk chair and swiping a few things off my bed. Not being able to form words, I offered Minho a seat by abruptly gesturing to my bed with my hand. He took the offer and carefully let himself take a seat.
I scanned the room for anything embarrassing I had left lying around. I was safe, for now.
I guess in the time I had been in the bathroom, Minho had gathered himself a bit as he seemed a little more comfortable.
"So this is why you wear the same thing everyday, you wouldn't be able to find anything in this mess." I pulled at the back of my hair, feeling a little embarrassed at the state of it. Minho must have noticed as he quickly reassured me.
"It's okay, I don't actually care." Him saying that made me feel a little better but that didn't mean I had calmed myself down, in any way.
I took a seat with him on the bed as he laid out the work over my bedsheets. I grabbed some of my own stuff too as we set up everything we needed for the assignment. My hands were sweaty, almost drenched at this point. Why was I being like this? It was just Minho.
I took a deep breath. Unfortunately I hadn't paid any attention to how loud that breath would be as Minho looked up at the noise.
"Are you okay?" My eyes flicked open.
"Y-yeah, I'm okay." Minho seemed to have believed me as he went back to the work.
After about two hours, it was closing in on the evening, we had finished quite a lot. Though, the only conversation being had was when Minho had a question which I answered with a great deal of trouble.
Then a knock was at my door. We both looked up to see it creak open and reveal my mother.
"Hey boys, I was just just wondering if you needed anything, something to drink? Something to eat?" I went to Minho for an answer.
"I could eat." Minho shrugged, I nodded along as it was about time for dinner anyway.
"Okay then I'll whip something up. Minho are you staying over?" The mood of the room changed quite quickly. We hadn't really discussed that. We still had a lot to do, and not much time to do it.
"Yes, he is!" I don't know what came over me or what urged me to blurt the response out but at least it had my mother out of the room before things got weirder. With my mother gone, we sat in silence, both of us a little shocked at my abrupt words.
"I'm staying over?" At Minho's question, I was quick to justify my actions, though my justification turned into more of a mashed chain of words.
"Yeah, I mean we still have a lot of work to do and it's already late. If you don't want to, I'll go tell my mum. That was stupid to just say that. I'm stupid. I'm sorry I-" I stopped when I felt Minho's hand on my shoulder.
"Hey, calm down, It's not the end of the world. I'd love to stay over." The smile on Minho's face made me want to melt. How did he manage to make everything sound so simple yet make my feelings so complicated?
"Okay, I guess it's settled then." I smiled back.
"Oh, and let's take a break." At this I furrowed my brows. A break?
"And do what exactly?" I chuckled.
"Let's play a game."
