Four Weeks Later
Emma sat on her bed looking down at her hands stunned. She had been feeling nauseous every day for the last week or so. This morning she had finally gotten enough courage to start going through some of the items in her moms' room; when she found the booties, her mom had made her and Logan. She picked up the pink pair and stared at them. Suddenly she could feel bile rising with a vengeance and rushed to the bathroom.
"Fuck" Emma mumbled as she rinsed her mouth after spending the last ten minutes puking her breakfast up. She quickly fumbled for her new phone opening the calendar app and saw she was supposed to have her period two weeks ago. "FUCK!" She yelled before taking a deep breath before pushing away from the sink and walking out of the bathroom.
She grabbed her keys and headed downtown to the pharmacy hoping she didn't run into anyone she knew. She pulled up in front looking around and not seeing anyone. "Okay, Em, you can do this! Go in there buy the test. It will be negative, and you can put this silliness behind you." Emma laughed at herself. "Worst pep talk ever" She mumbled to herself before getting out of the car.
She found herself in the isle looking at the twelve different types of tests they had. "Why on earth do you need this many options?" Emma said to herself trying to figure out which one she should get. Finally, she grabbed three at random and tossed them into the basket. As she was walking back to the front of the store, she passed the refrigerated section and saw they had edible cookie dough. "Yup definitely going to need this." She opened the door and grabbed a tub and started to close it. "Nope, I am going to' need more than one of these to get through the day.
She walked up to the cashier who happened to be a teenage boy who looked at her like she had two heads. He took his sweet time ringing her up and silently judging her. She grabbed the bag and rushed back to her car before peeling out of the parking lot and speeding home. She quickly parked in the garage and rushed up to her room. She dumped the contents of the bag onto her bathroom counter setting the cookie dough to the side and ripping open the first box. She took out the two tests inside and read the directions. It was pretty simple pee on the end and wait three minutes.
She sat down and uncapped the tests and attempted to get enough pee on them without making a mess, not a simple test when your hands are shaking. She recapped them and finished before sitting back on the toilet with the seat cover down. She set the timer on her phone and waited and waited. Finally, her the timer went off and she looked down at the tests. One was positive and the other was negative. "Well that sure was fucking helpful." Emma grumbled while rereading the directions thinking she did something wrong. In the disclaimer she read that sometimes the test can give a false result. "Well I guess it is good I bought more than one damn box."
She opened the remaining two boxes, each had two more tests in it reading the directions it was pretty much the same. One had a digital result window and the other had the traditional pink line window like the first two tests had. This time she grabbed one of the paper dixie cups she had sitting on the counter and decided to pee in that and dunk each test in and try it that way. Peeing in the cup was much easier than trying to stick four tests in and get them wet enough without running out of pee.
After dunking each of the remaining tests and recapping them she reset her timer and waited and waited. These three minutes felt even longer than the first time. When her timer finally went off, she stood up and read each test. All of them were positive.
"Well fuck me." Emma took a deep breath and laughed at herself. "That is what got me in this problem to begin with" She put all but one of the tests in the bag and threw it away outside where the boys were less likely to find it. On her way back up to her room she stopped in the kitchen to get a spoon. Grabbing both tubs of cookie dough and the test from the counter she sat on the bed and stared at it. She still couldn't process what was this really meant for her and Jason. Sure, they had talked about kids but they both wanted to wait a few more years. Suddenly she shot up running back to the bathroom and looked at her birth control pack. There they were, somehow, she had missed two days in the second week of pills. Sighing she chucked the pack in the trash before walking back and sitting on her bed.
