Thirteen years later

Emma was standing in front of the house that she had once called home. She had come back, her mother was sick and could not take care of her brother who was a typical teenager of sixteen. Her father had died three years ago in a car accident on his way home from work in a thunder storm. She was the only one that could help. She walked up the porch steps for the first time in four years. She looked at the old swing and remembered the day when she was ten and so eagerly awaited for a letter from her childhood friend Taylor. Emma shook off the memory and walked in the house.

She walked through to the kitchen to find her brother there with one of his friends. He was dressed in, jeans with holes in them and a polo shirt with aviator sunglasses on the top of his head.

"Logan Michael what do you think you are doing sitting on that counter." Emma said with hands on her hips. When Logan looked back he had a smile on his face and he jumped down to greet his sister.

"EMMA!" he ran to her and gave her a fierce hug and spun her around. "I didn't think you would be here till tomorrow. I just got home from school." When Emma looked around she could see that his backpack was on the floor by the back door and next to it was his friends as well.

"Logan, why don't you stop being rude and introduce me to your friend." Emma said while she walked over to where Logan's coat was on the floor to pick it up and hang it on the hook by the door.

"Oh sorry Em. This is Evan he came over till his brother could come pick him up after he got off work."

"Hello Evan. I'm Logan's sister Emma. I see that Logan here still lacks on some manners. Will you be staying for dinner?" she said as she walked over to shake his hand.

"He will be if you're cooking I'm sick of eating take out, mom can't do much anymore and all we have been eating is take out." Logan said as he walked over to the fridge to prove it. When he opened the doors it was filled with pizza and Chinese takeout boxes.

"I may have to make a run to the store depending on what we have in the house, but yes I guess I will make dinner." Emma said following her brother over to the fridge. When she opened the freezer door she saw it was filled with chicken and ground beef. "I am sure I can make something out of this." She pulled out some ground beef looked at the date and handed it to Logan. "Do either of you have anything against meatloaf?" she said as she shut the freezer door.

The boys looked at each other and shook their heads. "Ok then Logan put that on the counter to defrost. If you guys have any homework do it now I am going to get the stuff out of my car. On second thought you boys can help me and do your homework later." When they just stood there looking at her like she had two heads, she sighed. "Now chop chop I don't have all day. Let's go. I don't have that much stuff it won't take long I promise." Then she turned and walked out of the kitchen to go to her car.
